Hi. Putts and myself setup a friendly multi-clan tourney including a finished website and forum. We never launched it tho. Busy lives and all. Our tourney setup could be helpful in getting this tourney off the ground. A breif sum of it:

1v1 single elimation best 2-out-of-3 maps wins. 10 mins per map.

One admin with final say on disputes.

The bracket filled by random draw alternating between 2 tourney admins.

Server Setup: standard 1v1 dmflags.

Maps: each player pre-selects one map per match. Q2DM1 used for tie-breaker. Any map may be used. All maps to be used must be either given to a tourney admin for hosting or a link posted. (More about this in match setup). If regularly adding maps to a server is a pain for the admins then require all custom maps to be entered before tourney begins. 

Match Setup: Create a "Tourney" forum. Have a sticky titled something like "Tourney maps here" where all links/maps can be found. For every individual match an admin creates a thread. Thread title example: "Superdave vs. Geikram". Each player can discuss what maps to use, dates and times for matches, and post final results in the individual thread. Also it's a good place for smack, demos, screen shot, etc. A forum might remove the communication problems of trying to contact one another through irc, messenger, or servers.

2 weeks between matches. This is plenty of time decide on maps and setup a match. Also if an odd custom map is used players can become fimilar with them before the match. Head admin has final say on eliminations if a match cannot be scheduled.

That's some of it. There are other aspects to consider too. If all matches require demoing then a ref shouldn't be needed (easier scheduling). What about lag and/or timeouts? Losing a match because of flooding out doesn't seem fair but a simple bound script could lag a player out to avoid a loss then demand a rematch. I think a required male/CTFblue vs. female/CTFblue would be fair. With a somewhat bright standard tourney skin there would be no need for anyone to change it in baseq2. etc...

I like the Idea of having a thread for each matchset, for communication purposes, since most of Contact Information are emails. It'd still be as quick through the forums. But that is up the Forum' Admins.

We have been given a space on tastyspleen though for the Tournament demos and such, perhaps even some parts of forums could be transfered there. not sure about the possibilities.

The server can be set to pause when timeout, disced, flood out, and the player can join back within an alloted time.  All datas saved. Most likely the disc'ed will be the first to be punished - however the 'player still in game' will have the final word on if he wants rematch. I was sketching out some rules this morning, gotta post this soon.

We will also post a Poll soon for few flexible settings (timelimit, fraglimit, overtime etc..)

***IMPORTANT***

Please keep in mind that "The Edge" is the only map with default appearance in the Tournament, for perhaps 3 slots (1 Match in the Final, 1 in 1st Rnd, and another yet to be determined).

All other slotted Maps have to be "Nominated" then Polled, the Deadline is near - and there is still not that many.
So if you want a specific map to be played, please post in the Maps Nominations Thread.

Just thought I'd clarify the perhaps underrated importance of that thread.

i believe the tournament should be double elmination, not single elimination, double elimination tournaments yield better results

Ztn2dm2 is tied with trdm04a at the moment. In case of a tie:

The one who has the most First Pick will go through, if equal, then the one with most 2nd Pick.
If they have the exact same Picks, a coin will be tossed.

at first i thought having all these custom maps would be a bad thing...but after practicing on them for a bit, and realizing how unprepared some other players may be for them....i am very satisfied
