Anyone know where to download DirectQ II/DirectQ2? impossible to find a link to dl it, they're all dead i've been wanting to try it out.

If someone has it, could you atleast upload to a site for us to grab or put it on tastyspleens index under clients or w/e? lolol

FTEQW that's a cool one. I can not get it to run online or very well at all :(

FTEQW seems awesome, but one problem lol the game wont even load single player, you try to launch and just returns to menu lmao.

nope best quake 1 mod is lol, shame someone hasnt recreated quake 1 in doom3 engine or recreated all of n64 quake 2 in pc version of q2

quake 1 is awesome, but one thing i hate is ''NO CROUCH'' even in the official remaster of quake 1 they still didnt add a crouch goddamn it.

that's the games biggest flaw to me tbh.

people always talk about ''2001'' version of duke, i want the 1998/quake 2 version it's the original vision of the game even tho they claim it doesnt ''exist'' load of bullcrap and unreal engine being a janky piece of crap is why the game was in development hell lol.

ok i got fteqw working with build off site below, FTEQW is rather awesome even tho it's not the ''vanilla experience'' that's cool the dynamic lighting actually works with the standard q2 netcode protocol.

Have any of you tried jake2/quake 2? i cant seem to get it running, i installed java se 17 and installed all of Jake2-0.9.5-install.jar's files to a folder and put baseq2 in there but it wont launch it just says ''inititalizing client subsystem never launches tho stops doesnt do anything, picture attached of what id does.

thanks glad i got to try it, the lighting is borked tho disabled for chaingun/rail/machine gun and a few other weapons lol, what the hells up with these source ports totally borking the lighting effects? That was one of the biggest features of quake 2 when it launched ''COLORED LIGHTMAPS'' breaking this or removing it makes the game not quake 2.

This seriosuly pisses me off lol.

Vulkan quake 2 is superior to that directQ2 tho it has minor graphical glitches, but it's still being worked on atleast the lighting functions properly tho.

Going back to the old 3.20 renderer -the lighting for the chaingun/mgun is actually pretty amazing, especially when the enforcer is firing at you. I did just notice that in DirectQII the Enforcer fires out of the end of his chaingun arm like he should be and the shadows are much, much better. Also it has water warp effect like software, which I forgot. It really is too bad about that lighting though.

 Yamagi also has a Vulkan renderer option making it very close to Kondrak's but with http. Kondrak's does have the water warp effect and I don't think Yamagi does with the Vulkan renderer -could be wrong.

The truly shit thing about the original gl_ref is that the mouse goes a little strange after a bit and you need to "vid_restart" which does not really fix the problem. At least this is the case for my system -Win10 etc. That is even with MarkC's mouse fix so it's not an acceleration thing.

*just noticed that setting gl_dynamic to 2 or higher does increase the brightness of the dynamic lights from explosions etc. quite a lot in DirectQII.
