I built DirectQII from the latest source code from this guy's repo on git:

I have attached it to this post. We get flashing lights from the machine gun now, and the enforcer is sparking nicely while he's ventilating my bald headed 'roid raging carcass. There is no screen flicker with the machine gun and vsync off. Nice!
May take some fiddling to get going, but you all likely use higher res monitors than me so maybe it will work right off as is for you. I run it at vid_mode 10 (1024x768@60hz)
Tested it online just now, still lost, but it runs great. Computer did not melt and it is really quite smooth. I had to remove my custom pak because some things would not render quite right. With just base game all is rendered perfectly. I will play around more, but I'm sure most custom .pcx files will work. I don't think it supports fancy textures and png/jpeg stuff.
*As I wrote -it works for me, but still: use at your own risk! -I just compiled it
**The railgun even flashes the way it should and gamma (vid_brightness) works like it should have. Very impressed with this little client. Looks crispy, kinda softwarey but in a good way. Running at vid_gamma "1" and vid_brightness "1.5".

Found an older DirectQII exe that I've attached. This one has shadows that are better than the original and all the lighting seems to work as it should.
