888 does have a nice consistent KDR maybe he is a legend. gotta give him props i guess. he might be an asshat troll... but he plays railwarz CTF sometimes so i appreciate him for spending some time there... hes a pretty novice player in railwarz... hes got some nice lazer hooking patterns and can cap some flags... hes not very fast... but he can dodge some railz... his aim is pretty pathetic in railwarz CTF that or hes just not trying to aim cause hes so focused on trying to run the flag and cap it which takes him forever because hes so slow.... i guess its nice to have a player like him cause it keeps the game interesting rather than capping the map out in a few minutes... he kinda drags it out with his super slow flag runs and give people time to rack up some points... he is always one of the lowest scoring players... but he does cap a decent amount of flags which is nice... it would be cool if he could learn to use the railgun and hook at the same time... he might be a true legend in my book then... but hes pretty newbish overall in railwarz CTF such a newb mod... but ive got 100000s of hours in it so i  might be biased... most players will quit because they are upset they cant compete at such a newb mod... so i admire 888 he always trys to get better. where most otthers will quit...

888 will talk a lot of shit in railwarz just like DM servers... i have to be careful not to talk too much shit back cause he will rage quit and leave like a crybaby....some of the biggest trash talkers or some of the biggest cry babies... this is true in every mod... with all skill levels of players... so many sore loser cry babies everywhere... no big deal i love everyone just glad you all play quake2... bring the tears! wahhhhh

888 does have a nice consistent KDR maybe he is a legend. gotta give him props i guess.

 

He is low-average AT BEST. He plays mornings and work hours with mostly high pingers, and when someone joins who consistently keeps him out of the top spots, he either goes sidelines and waits for them to leave before rejoining, or he leaves and checks back in 15-30mins. It's so glaringly obvious that he actually gives a shit about the mostly meaningless stat of KDR in the forums ticker,... and I guess some people think it means anything... but not entirely - it is not an accurate way of ranking players or judging their skill. It's a "rough estimate" at best. When he's playing people who aren't as serious as him, he uses lots of low-risk spam and pot-shot tactics, mostly only bothers using SSG and RL (because he sucks with the weapons that require more accuracy or tracking skills), and he makes a conscious effort to get his KDR as high as possible. I very very rarely ever lose an FFA map to him, and my own KDR tends to be around 1.90 to 1.80... because I'm not being like him: a lame douchebag running away from every fight desperately trying to protect his precious KDR like it's his virginity.



 

If your gameplay focuses more on maintaining a higher KDR more than doing whatever it takes to rack up more frags faster, then you're missing the point of FFA.

AFAIK, there is no blocking specific to a direct message. Direct messages are a feature of q2admin and it exists mainly so WallFly can send you the server list when you use the goto command.

I suppose WallFly could be setup to enable direct messages only when he needs to and close the door behind him to prevent this kind of abuse.
This could be investigated.

R1q2 has the ignore command. (ignore <text>) It looks at the chat text and discards it completely if it matches the text. It's a 'greedy' match so incoming "sicko" will match if "sick" was the ignored text. The list is output if no text follows the ignore command. The unignore <text> command removes the matched item from the list.

Q2pro has 'ignoretext' and 'ignorenick' and they operate in the same way as above and ignorenick discards messages matching the nick or any variant.

It all comes down to how easily one can be distracted by tactics like taunts and direct messages. If one is easily upset and impared when someone sends you a message repeatedly, then he wins.

That's why I said there's no blocking a direct message.

Beav's suggestion of con_notifylines 0 will work with q2pro/q2rtx but I don't see the equivalent in r1q2.
The nice part of that setting is you get the sound of the message, if you have message sounds enabled, but you don't need to see it in console unless you pull it down.

This is incorrect. This feature predated quadz's dorkbuster code by a number of years. It was intended to do exactly what it looks like it does:  send a private message from player to player without any other players seeing it.  Quadz simply exploited it with some ruby code on every server that has wallfly to use the stuff command to force clients to see other servers, and go to (goto) other servers.

We were using this feature a couple years before tastyspleen existed.
