It Is well known that reboots clear out memory clear hung processes and refresh many parameters.

Tastyspleen does not run on a Windows server from 10 years ago so your assertion is false. Modern linux/unix servers don't need to be rebooted to "clear out memory clear hung processes and refresh many parameters". I'm sorry, but that is silly and false.

What's the big deal about trying a reboot?  10 minutes and done remotely.

Quadz previously stated that it's something he could do early in the morning when there is no traffic, but why should he have to stay up late doing server admin work for no reason? I live a couple hundred miles from the server and my ping is rock steady...has been for years really...so it's definitely an isp/networking/routing issue on your end.

forcing a reboot can reduce the amount of entropy when brute forcing randomly generated security values that use the server start time as a section of the equation (most notably cutting several bits out of cookie generation for the built in PHP session handling in older versions of PHP)

There are more than a few people around here who work with computers, servers, or networks as a profession... quadz runs several servers all by himself and is more than capable of knowing when a reboot is needed




if your ISP is giving you the shaft, there is literally NOTHING you can do

calling them to tell them your connection to a game server isn't stable will result in "we can only guarantee the amount of bandwidth, not latency" (which usually they won't deliver on bandwidth at peak times either)

you are just SOL... though if you make a big enough fuss you MIGHT be able to get a technician to come make sure the switch everyone is on in your neighborhood is working properly (but it is a long shot, and they would likely bill you)

Please.   The people who handle this q2 stuff are usually up at all hours.   Late night early morning is normal for these guys.    They ain't 9 to 5 guys.   And you live close that's why you aren't affected.  I'm sure all servers whether windows or Linux can benefit from periodic reboots.

Well I'm sorry that asking for a server reboo t on the trouble shooting forum is such an imposition.  I didn't know that a simple reboot would be equivalent to the debate over the federal budget.    My apologies for having the audacity to request that someone push a button or two in an attempt to clear up what potentially could be server side issues.   How silly of me.   

Of course, not one person in their sarcastic responses has pointed out what HARM there could be to try a reboot to see what that does.  If it does nothing -- so what.  At least you tried.
