Frankly I've found it so difficult to get info from you I've stopped trying to help you diagnose your network issues.

I still haven't seen the 15 minute WinMTR trace I asked for (twice!) on page 2.

And the screenshot you finally posted after several requests shows about 5 seconds worth of data, barely enough to get a sense of the frequency of lag spikes vs. packetloss.

In any case, if there's one fact that needs to permeate your cranium, it's that if some players are experiencing smooth gameplay and a flat netgraph at the same time that yours looks choppy, the problem is not on the server.

BTW, when I wrote in my first post, "I don't mind restarting the vanilla/dm servers for the hell of it, as this is simple enough to do," I was referring to restarting the Q2 servers. There's no way in hell I'm rebooting fragbait.tastyspleen.net (aka the Linux host system.)

So basically you can either continue troubleshooting your network problem via the approaches above (WinMTR, more complete netgraph screenshot)... or you can keep posting requests for an unnecessary server reboot that's not going to happen.

Wow.   That's quite a potty mouth.    Again you miss the point. I understand that you don't think a reboot will help. What I don't understand is why you think it is such a big deal to reboot anyway just in the  maybe minor off chance it could be of some minuscule good effect.  You act like rebooting is like passing a kidney stone.   I never said it IS the server for sure.   You should reAd the thread.   Clearly you just want to entertain friends on the board rather than provide anything productive.    Nice job.   We are proud of you.

Thanks for restarting the q2 servers (if you did).   Haven't run winmtr yet.  Thought the netgrPh was sufficient instead.    Not asking for Linux host system reboot.   Not sure if there are others experiencing smooth play when I'm not.

That's more like the inversion of what I said. My position is that if you're lagging and other players aren't, then we have ruled out a server issue.

But if all players are lagging simultaneously, that still doesn't "mean a server issue". In terms of likelihood, it would mean there's probably a network router issue in SoftLayer's network close enough to the server to affect everyone.

But when one factors in your data about the problem occurring only during specific times of day, that makes it even more likely to be a network problem, and--unless we're certain it's affecting all players--it also suggests the problem is more likely to be closer to you than to the server.

Why don't you run the goddamned WinMTR trace for 15 minutes while you're experiencing lag, and find out?
