...how much space does everyone's Q2 directory take up?

Mine USED to be about 52 gigs, give or take, with everything (mods, maps, skins, textures, demos, screenshots et al) but thanks to a slip of the finger a couple of weeks ago I accidentally deleted the lot. Argh!

So I'm rebuilding my collection from old backup CDs, the TS file library, mirrors of the old cdrom.com idgames repository and whatever else I can dig up! Currently up to about 12 gigs.

How about you guys?

Mine's currently only 3gb.

Unless you're including high res textures, I'm not sure there was ever even 40gb of Q2 stuff ever released. I'm not really interested in different texture sets though, but that's just me.

I'm actually quite shocked at just *how much* there is out there. The TS download repository on its own is something like 10 gigs. Of course that DOES include high-res textures but those are I think only a few hundred megs?

DDay mod is on a different directory though.

Although on my old machine, I think it was up to 11gb at one time. I had probably every map ever made, both expansion packs, a whole shitload of models and skins, a few different hi-res texture and model pak files, hundred of different pak files in additional folders that I added inside the Quake2 folder just to keep it all in one place, as well as every pak file that I ever made myself (including all of the scraps of images that I used to create them/edit them/make webpages for them/etc.... but the vast majority of the size came from thousands of PNG screenshots that I would take at the end of games. I used to always hit F12 after every single map I'd ever win in an FFA game. I don't do it anymore, and now I have more disk space for really important things... like midget porn.

how in the fuck...you musta recorded every single damn game you've ever played since day one and have transferred your files on over from HD's over the years or something...I mean, I almost don't even believe you, haha...20 gigs is pushing it for someones q2 folder, but 52gigs?...geez.

9.08 GB. Lot of jump maps is what does it, but other mods rack up the maps/textures/sounds/skins as well. I back my shit up on a flash drive. :>

BTW to ImperiusDamian: If you really want to, there's programs out there that you can download that will allow you to recover deleted files, so long as they haven't been overwritten anyway. Might wanna search the net for it...I can't remember the name of the damn thing. This isn't the one I used, but it looks good: http://www.winundelete.com/

Also you can try restoring a backup via System Restore. This will of course roll you back to whatever files you had at the time before the deletion as well, so any new work you'd need to back up on a flash drive.

Anyway, just some ideas.

Well, yes, there were a lot of demos and screenshots, LOL... but I think the majority of it was maps, skins and mods. Maps and skins more than anything, really. I enjoy a good single-player game from time to time so I had a crapload of single-player stuff up there too.

ex and yahoo, I did try an undeleter actually, attempting to recover some of what I'd lost. Unfortunately all I managed to recover was some screenshots. Most of the rest had already been overwritten. Thanks for the suggestions though!
