he's actually right though, that's what it is. all i meant is that when someone calls quake 2 3d, i doubt they are talking about a screenshot of q2 being 3d. it's a reference to it being an fps with movement in 3 dimensions.

Wow, took some time to register here  I noticed a spike in my Youtube video views, so I ended up here. Thanks for sharing and all the comments.

Sad how this video has less than 1000 views for all that work he put in. 5 seconds of youtube tits yields more views than a billion hours of coding does. 

Yea, it is pretty frustrating. Another way to get views is to write "minecraft" in the video title. My previous minecraft themed demo, which is far inferior, still gets 300-500 views per day while Quake 2D has around 10

I expected this, so I limited myself to only the first few levels. I stopped coding after the release and switched to weightlifting

First of all I want to apologize for bumping up a two year old thread. I wanted to start a new thread, but since I am not an active member here, I didn't know in what subforum should this go.

Few days ago I got that email about the frag fest, I went here and saw a part of the forum theme is a screenshot of my Quake 2D game. That meant a lot to me, so I thought maybe you guys might be interested in what I am currently doing.

In October last year I started coding again and in the last few months I've written my own game engine from scratch. I didn't know what to make with it, since I am not really a game designer, so I just decided that for a start I should simply remake that 2012 Quake 2D game using the new engine.

This time my main focus are modability and editors. Back then a lot of game mechanics(weapons, doors, switches...) were either hardcoded or written very badly, and external files like maps and skeletons were unreadable. Now all this is written in readable XML files, and editors have far more features.

This post already got to long, so I will just post a video and few pictures. If you guys approve I would continue posting my progress here, or if not tell me where can I start a new thread.
