that is like someone calling this graph 3d



and saying to them "No, technically it's actually 2d, the paper/ink is creating an illusion"

when obviously the person is referring to the function/limit that defines the graph, which possesses x, y, and z coordinates giving it three dimensions.

You're thinking too much into it.  The screen is flat, hence 2D.  So is the paper your graph is on.  ;)  The "illusion" is how we perceive what is on the paper/screen, making it 3D in our minds.

You're the one who didn't put enough thought into it. When someone refers to quake 2 as three dimensional, they are referring to the physics concerning the first person POV and it's interaction in three dimensions...........it has ZERO, as in NOTHING to do with just looking at an instantaneous screenshot and considering it two dimensional.

This is why your initial statement:

is 100% wrong. Your approach is _NOT_ the standard of math/physics. And if you want to choose this perception/consciousness > physics route(which is different from your initial statement, which is what I responded to) then I'd be glad to have this discussion. If I were you I'd read up on biocentrism and it's uses of hendrik lorentz's theories. And after you are entirely familiar with his studies, I'll be right here to remind you that it's not the scientific standard that was set through Newton's theories of motion + Einstein/relativity.... and you will be 100% mathematically incorrect.

... and you obviously don't know what I'm talking about.

So no, just because the "screen is flat, hence 2D." doesn't mean that it's "technically 2D". When someone calls quake 2 a "3 dimensional game" they're NOT referencing how the naked eye perceives something on a flat computer screen(the "illusion" you're referred to with your _2nd_ point which contradicted your 1st point). It is _OBVIOUSLY_ a reference to the game play and the physics of a game and it's ability to experience/move in three dimensions as I said.

so back to this stupid quote:
