I usually use r1q2 if I'm serious about getting frags, but I've really enjoyed EGL lately

I don't think my geforce (mx440 64mb) could handle 4x aniso, but I haven't tried messing with my
settings too much since I started using R1GL... I'm still reading the docs to figure out
what kind of improvements I can make that won't burn my old vid card up in 20 minutes...
I've been saving up, but it'll be a few more months before I can build my new rig.
As soon as I saw screenshots from Enemy Territory:Quake Wars, I started shopping my new
parts.



Actually all mx440 cards do not require fans - the chip cooler gets extremely hot but do not worry that is how they were designed.

brace yourselves. this is my q2. the actual size (I CANNOT GET FULLSCREEN after updating the drivers on this intel integrated shitcard), and i'd say an average amount of packetloss on my shitty provider.  dont get me wrong, i like q2 but i believe i have my reasons for not playing very often.

roll those puppies back to the last working set of drivers! quickly!
(unless there was some major problem that updating them fixed...)

My work comp has a pretty crappy old ATI card in it (ATI RAGE PRO 128 (8mb)) but it can still push out 800x600 fullscreen x 32bit colors.. It has funky little problems with the hud and the conchars, where it draws a few pixels here and there that shouldn't exist, but the game itself has no problems (other than textures looking pretty blurry from a distance)...
I don't think I could even play the game in a window.

That's a gnarly looking netgraph too. ouch.

Wow. How do you run EGL on it? I tried EGL on a Geforce 4 with most the options off and I though it was too slow.

tuned down lots of the decals and particle/smoke effects and such, and I don't use it for heavily populated games or those with lots of projectiles flying around. I also turn of anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing and set the gore at a reasonable level so I don't over-tax the old dinosaur card...

I like the higher quality smoke and such, and luckily for me, EGL still looks infinitely better than stock q2 at the lowest end of the settings.

I use it mostly for railz (really nice rail trails) or FFA maps like q2dm8, where there aren't big open areas and huge amounts of visibility. It does slow down drastically if I play tokay's towers or another really busy map, on the dm server with a decent number of people... (don't even try vanilla.. lol)

I usually use r1q2 if I don't care what the weapon/gore effects look like that day..
