Here's what my quake looked like on an old crappy machine. This was when i tried r1q2 and couldn't get it to work.

custom paks, however. that make things look better and advanced clients dont count haha

my q2 looks like the latest version of R1Q2 in software mode...for some reason i cant even hit anything in opengl mode. maybe since i've been playing q2 in software mode for almost ten years, I've gotten too used toit.

that's the same problem i was having with r1q2. I could never get it out of software mode. I think it might have been my shit ass video card.

yeah, it is probably your video card noctuary. and yes, i play in software mode on a 500Mhz PC...software mode people!!! the fucking lowest of low in resolution and graphical quality. AND I'm still one of the best players you will ever fucking see in your life. Q2 takes up almost 100% of my system resources just to run it, and sometimes it does take up 100%. My ping is only 30, but software lag is as bad as having a 200 ping. Sure, my commands go through, but my fov can get choppy at times, expecially in intensive battle situations that involve more than one player. I should get a fucking award or something...or not. whatever. Anyways, software mode 0wns j00 4LL. Oh, and xtife, I so agree with you, this bright shit, and those people and their fucking glow pack skins can lick my ass. I consider anyone who can see in the dark, where it's meant to be dark, to be cheating. It's basicly the same principles of wallhacks, it's so you can see players where and when you shouldn't be able to. Those fuckers should be banned. because it gives them an advantage, and it actually bypasses how the map was meant to be played. the only thing you can do is use what they use so your even, but thats the god damn same thing as if someone was using an aimbot or wallhack on me, and so to level the playing field, I would have to go and download a wallhack or aimbot too. It's bullshit!!! And by all means, THE SAME THING! do you get the analogy? or was your 3rd grade teacher too dumb to teach that shit to you, so you gotta use fuckiing hacks to be just as good as those around you, fucking patchetic ass lamers. (directed duely towards them, not you xtife)

Plastik you are not one of the best players we will ever see, and im on a 350mhz pc, with a 16mb voodoo3 so dont go complaining about your system, omega keeps up with you on rails fairly easily, and ive rarely seen you win vanilla, which isnt a hard task anyway, im not saying im elite or anything, im far from that, I openly admit im about as skilled at this game as a wet fish.. software mode isnt even THAT bad.. I put up with it for a long time.. (well, 2 months) of playing online.. it all sounds like a bit of a whine to me.

i have been meaning to take a screenshot, but i never remember which key it is.

i have modified my skins and light. Age will send you in that direction. Talk to me in fifteen years plastik about how you have your settings.

i dont think i messed with my settings much for the first few years. i think about one or two years into the game, i figured out how to change my gl_modulate. i never used bright settings until i found a config with q2advance that had it. i used to use an actual bright skin pak. i think i still have it somewhere, but i dont remember the name of it so i can't find it. About six months ago i suppose, i just overwrote all the defualt skins in my players directory with some skins that are easier to see. Stuff like that makes a big difference when you play q2 for about 18 hours a day(sadly only a very tiny exageration).

i just got a new flat screen 19'' monitor for christmas. im looking forward to seeing how it looks and how it performs. My current monitor is pretty old and has a not very high refresh rate. i'm maxed out at 91 fps.

Hope Santa was kind to everyone. i was hoping for a new gaming mouse. i guess that is something that will have to wait until the new year.

i got side tracked in my last post.

i was thinking with the abilities of the tastyspleen servers, it would be possible to FORCE defualt settings and perhaps kick clients for attempting to modify them while connected to that particular server. Just a thought. i doubt it would be real popular. i can't think of a server side mod that would force skins, but the lighting would be easy in my mind.

My opinion on this, is that (same applys to camping I.M.O apart from a certain number of cases) if it was not meant to be done, the game makers wouldent allow it to happen, do you see what im getting at? if gl_modulate 99 was not meant to be allowed, it wouldent have been, so in effect, these settings are all default, and it only gets not default when modified clients and hacks begin to come in. just thought id chip in

that would be nice gator. but maybe easy to overcome? probably with the skins you would have to do some a crc check of the intended files. As for the lighting, I have no clue.

adam: i know it sounds like a wine, but thats just me bitching out loud. I'm pretty content with software mode. But there are advantages to using opengl mode over software mode. and for one, atleast you know I can't even use a wallhack, because I don't believe there is any for software mode, though I could be wrong. and how could I be whining when I made the statement 'software mode owns you all'. But technically, thats like complaining that the only car you could afford is a 4 cylinder vs. an 8 cylinder. It's very legitimate. your 16MB voodoo is better than anything I've got. and software mode does offer its own challenges, especially when you have a bit of distance between you and other players your engaging. It's not like everyone has soo much better equipment than me that I can't even compare to them in skill because of that. and as for the omega on railz, when I played with him on there the other day as I recall I was 1st place every game we played, except maybe one, if that. And no I don't win on vanilla all the time, or even everytime, but I have won my fair share of games. Half of the time on vanilla im camping and waiting, so it's not like i'm going all out to try to find people and get frags, hell half of the time on vanilla it's soo chaotic that it's all about who can get to the weapon and pull the trigger the quickest. I'd be interested to know how you came up with this information of me 'rarely' winning on vanilla, because for one, I never see you on there, or railz for that matter. Anyways, so your going to hold it against me because I don't play on vanilla much and don't win all the time on it when i do actually play?? pfft! I enjoy railz way more than vanilla. now...go get me another beer like you did before...and don't forget to mow the damn lawn again. no, I don't care if it's snowing bitch...MOW IT!!!

so your saying you are in no way skilled and that it is fairly easy to win on vanilla. so if you have the skills of a wet fish, how would you consider it easy to win on vanilla? is there some secret win the game death move i don't know about? doubt it!

and btw, i say I am one of the best you will ever see not due to my own ego, but due to the fact that i have had ALOT of people tell me i'm very exceptional, even people whom I would consider very good too. but who's to say how many players are the best out there?

(how come people try to say you don't have skill, THEN say they also have no skills, so 1vs1 would be pointless, because all they have to say is 'I told you I have no skill' when they lose. then basicly say, 'and btw though, you still suck even though I lost to you' pathetic.
