I don't use any paks and my q2 looks rather plain too. But it works for me.
The second screenshot however is in software mode! Trippy eh?

I am trying to play without the first person gun models because they look ugly, kill frame rate, and cover the screen. However, it is not soo easy to get used to it.

i know that its going to be in the center of the screen
so i can roughly figure it out

there are a couple. mostly ww2 shooters...

hell even the D-day mod for q2 has iron sights.
