Yeah, she made the same threat to me. If she's gonna sue Quadz for non-existent bullshit copyright infringement, maybe I should have charges brought against her for "making terroristic threats." It's quite an inclusive charge. You can be arrested for "making terrorist threats" by simply telling someone, "I'm going to kick your ass.", so making threats to kill someone would definitely fit the charge. I'm sure more than 3 people have verifiable digital records of such an accusation.

On the topic of new overrides, is it OK to use the override sounds a.k.a spawngirlsounds? I can redo the weapon placement, but can we use the sounds that spawngirl never had any copyright over in the first place?

Then again, I cant say the same for myself. Ive used the GLaDOS sounds from portal.

rename the sounds and the folder if you want to use them, and she won't be able to say or prove shit.
she has no claim to music she didn't record either way.

It would be nice to NOT include the huge music files tho, since they make a lot of people leave the server if they connect to try it out and realize they have 8 minutes of downloading to do first. I think this was a common complaint about spawndude's overrides.

A good compromise would be to resample them into smaller, lower quality tracks to save space.

But alot of people have already download spawn girls sounds. Renaming them and lowering their quality would take more time downloading.

good point. since most of the regulars already have them, it would just be more effort for you and not a lot of return on that investment of time.

you can edit them!
if you just edit the sounds, and use the same name, only ppl that dont have those sounds will download them.
the others will keep her sounds.
if you edit both the sound and the name, so all ppl will have to download them again.

The spawngirlsounds folder will be deleted.

Some sounds contain her own voice, and many contain custom phrases she rendered with speech synthesis...

Asking me if it's OK to upload clips of copyrighted music puts me in an awkward position.

It's probably not OK.

In practical terms, since the music is just an excerpt that is being used in an old game for atmospheric purposes, it's hard to see how this would be damaging to the copyright holder in any way.  But I am not a lawyer.

So, I guess I've taken sort of a 'youtube' approach?  I don't police the uploads, but if I got a takedown request from a copyright holder I would certainly honor it.

But again, if you're asking if it's OK to upload music clips without permission from the copyright holder, then, no, it probably isn't.
