True, they probably wouldn't have. Lynyrd Skynyrd has made t-shirts in the recent past with a front design very similar to the Jack Daniels label. My MC sells support t-shirts with a similar design also. It's been available for a pretty long time and no one has received a cease and desist letter yet.



If they were able to do that, you'd also have the Coca-Cola corporation suing all the Christian bookstores for selling red t-shirts that say "Jesus Christ" in the Coca-Cola font. While I do believe Coca-Cola has that familiar wavy line under the logo trademarked, they don't own the trademark on the font itself, so they can't really sue anyone for using it.

I'd sure JD could have an argument against your club shirts (but they don't care), but in the letter they admitted it was used as a parody.  I'm sure they found the nicest lawyer to flutter her eyes, puff out her lips and say "Pretty Please" just for the good PR.

I dunno. I'm pretty sure the Jack Daniels font itself is actually trademarked. I went scouring the internet a while back looking for the font in order to use it for a rear quarter panel logo on a Jack Daniels race car I was painting up for a mod in Nascar Racing 2003. I found several fonts that were kinda-sorta similar, but none that were exactly the same or close enough that I would've considered using it. I did however find a page detailing how it was a handdrawn font years and years ago, and it had a large image showing the original drawing of the complete font. I ended up having to use Photoshop to cut it apart, edit it, and piece it back together for a straight in-line Jack Daniels logo. Thing is Jack Daniels has TONS of money, they have the muscle and finances to pursue such a case, I just don't think they'd get enough money out of it in the end to make it worth their effort. But anyway, I'm sure they could take it to court and seek damages or whatever. But hopefully they realize we probably comprise a big chunk of their sales.
