damage/second is a silly way to rank them though. Take ssg for example...you can deal 120 damage instantly with SSG(not 1.2 seconds), it's not like you hold down +attack like cg. And then there's RL ranked so high when the likelihood of inflicting that much damage a second is 999999999999:1.

BFG isn't really effective in that scenario. You need like two or three shots for a kill, because of the angle of shot. I'm not sure what happens, but my guess is that the splash damage doesn't happen and the camper gets hit only by the rays emitted from the BFG shot. Grenade spam or a surprise rj rush are much better ways to punish someone who's camping in that room.

By the way, Mega Man is the shiz. It's one of the few games that you can actually get mad at it, which is cool, yet is a fun challenge. Plus, 8-bit rocks!

Not a super experienced ffa player, but I have always won a LOT of ffa games on dm8, solely based on my ability to get bfg so fast (dj from stairs to ledge to bfg). I'm the only person that can use it practically in an ffa, that i've seen. Works great in tdm as well, and no one really does it in tdm either. I mainly just control the top area with rail though, switching to BFG to fire spam shots straight down while jumping across ledges(when there's a bunch of action down below).. all the while collecting cells and timing the cells / YA occasionally, if the opportunity presents itself, so i can monopolize bfg, and anyone who is annoyed with it / tries to counter, they won't have any cells for PS. I'll fire soo many bfg shots in a single match on dm8.

a lot of people complain but.... i guess i'm the only one who can even abuse this jump to get bfg 10x quicker and it's kinda fun soooo

That jump is GREAT man especially if u can use it ingame, but hey any grenade or rj will get me up there just as fast  :righteous:

Well.. no :ubershock: You have to snag a grenade or RL then go all the way back up.....then you're just doing it at the same speed as speed jumping past the boxes. The advantage is due to the fact that you can get bfg in 3 seconds while controlling RG. So the jump, although nice, isn't all that i'm referring to. I'm not even saying this is the best way to play dm8 exactly. Controlling the 2 best weapons on the map systematically does help, though ;)

Didn't mean to degrade it or anything, but i do find the jump too hard to do, I will never feel like practicing it to perfection, that would take days lol..
I have tried it with Torch before, he got it a couple times, sometimes even 3 times in a row, then 15 minutes of failure  :frustration:..
If I was to rate that jump, 1 being easy as pie and 10 being n00k!e sickness, i'd say 8/10, the height needed is almost if not fully maxed >_<

I should of mentioned my scenario in more detail. I meant shooting BFG through the window from above rl, and not from above the ladder. Every once in awhile you'll play on that map and there will be a guy in the rg room, spamming grenades from his gl, effectively blocking anyone from trying to access the room via the ladder. That map strategy is kind of annoying.

That's a good strategy. Also yes, I've never seen anyone do that dj during a ffa game. I've tried but I can't get it in a real game. Idk what's the trick to get the vertical jump. I haven't tried a fps change yet.

There's another thing about nade damage that is different. It will deal out more pain to the opponent than you (the thrower) will take in close quarters. I've run into many players with a ticking nade and "thrown" it killing them but taking only 50 damage to myself. The same with the grenade launcher. I'll fire at close range on somebody killing them but taking maybe 50--> 60 damage myself. And I'm pretty sure these people have 100 health since they just spawned. I guess ID figured to make the damage equal (ie same distance from the blast for both players) would be pointless as the frag would be negated by the self-kill.

thats with all weapons in every quake, damage is 50% to self, thats why stuff like rocket jumps work without much trouble

Nading is harder to do than railing btw, not horribly difficult to click some1 when they get in ur crosshair, but it is harder to hold and aim a nade against a person moving like a madman lol.
