heh regardless of what Id claims, people in Texas (and elsewhere) had DVD editions on the 17th, because stores had them by then. it's all in who you know and who works where, I guess

I picked up Quake 4 and Serious Sam 2 today..

I got Serious Sam 2 at about 10am.. Quake 4 still hadn't arrived, it was due in at 3pm. SO I went back at 3:30 and got Quake 4. Since I had installed Serious Sam 2, i decided to play that first.. so my Quake 4 is still sitting in it's box.. anyone want to borrow it?

I played it last night at a friends house, I was pretty high while I was playing it but I really liked it. I was doing fairly well if i say so myself. I really enjoy all the weapons because I was truly expecting another quake 3, but found that they made certain weapons similar to quake 2. I personally enjoy the rocket launcher in q4 over q3. A lot of quake 3 players will hate it because its slower, but personally I am used to the quake 2 rl so it works great for me. It was easy. The nail gun and the plasma gun seem way too similar. I didn't really try it out too much to be honest though. Railgun is a railgun. Can't really go wrong with that. Didn't get to try the lightning gun at all unfortunately. The bfg is like the quake 2 bfg if that matters to anyone. It's called a "dark matter gun." Whatever. Anyway they have lots of quake 3 and quake 2 maps. I played q3dm17, the quake 3 map where you fight against Xero, and q2dm1. I liked knowing where everything was, but it definately felt much more cramped than in quake 2. It also felt like it was bigger in some way. There is a difference in the rail area as well; there's like a camping spot above the water, and people were sniping with the railgun. Thinking back, I dont even remember seeing water, and theres a good chance that the high perch is where the rail gun was. I'm not completely certain. I downloaded it and am about to install it. I'll tell you how well it runs on my computer, but if it runs fairly well, I am pretty certain I am going to buy it.

I think Q4 is gonna be so successful because now Q3 and Q2 players can finally enjoy one game instead of bitching over whether Q3 is better than Q2 or not. Banes, I heard Q4 is faster than Q3. But hey, everyone has thier opinions. I thought that the most impressive thing about Q4 is the ability to create a complete tournament schedule, in game. We get it here in south africa in a couple of weeks. I can wait, especially when I can get the original game for next to nothing.

You can kinda move faster in Q4 than in Q3 in some aspects... Unless you're talking about Q3 cpma, because then, Q4 is slow as shit.

I like the MP in this, played a little deathmatch earlier today, I thought it was pretty good. Except for the rail, seems a little harder to use, or I just need to get used to it. Could also be my mouse, optical don't work anymore so I'm using an old ball mouse

Single player is pretty good too. Definately worth the money, I'll be buying it as soon as I can.

For those of you who run only Linux, there is a Linux client/server patch, so you aren't left out.

I did buy Q4... But it won't run on my PC.

I'll try running a Q4 server on tastyspleen... But if it hogs so much CPU that it interferes with the Q2 servers I'll have to take it down...

I just created a dedicated server and looked at the CPU usage, and it wasn't that high, but then there was no one connected, not sure how much it would use with peolple playing.
