Q2E FAIL

latest version I could find is 0.40.  Is that the same as everyone else?

mine still wont work how did you go about installing yours?

i got the zip from the site i posted a link to, installed a fresh directory of quake2, unzipped and threw everything into the new directory, shoulda worked right? opened it up, menus work great, the game SORTA runs... but if i run around a bit, after a few seconds it just starts getting SOOO jerky

ask paril hes the guy that did the clean code thing, and hes the one that told me the coding is terrible makes sense honestly, otherwise my computer would roll through it pretty smoothly...

i think if i just got a more beastly graphics card it would be playable :/ but not very well, seeing as how i wouldnt hit my 125 fps and i dont think there is an independant physics variable

the part that confuses me is people with lesser cards are running it... so i dont know

just wished it would work so occasionally i could have some fun with really sweet looking q2 my r1q2 client works great but it isnt the nicest looking thing in the world

What model of chipset are you running? I used to have a low end dual 3.2GHz and thought it was awesome until I benched it against a high end Dual 2GHz and got smoked.

It may be that you have a celeron quad or another kind of entry level processor.

I don't know if Q2E uses multiple cores so your processor might be bogged with whatever else is going on at the same time.

its a phenom II 940, 3ghz stock, i used to have it overclocked but i thought the temps were startin to look iffy :/ need to re-seat the heatsink but im too lazy so i just dropped it back to stock and the temps are perfectly reasonable

running it on my asus m4n82 with the nforce 980a chipset thats just a rebranded 780a chipset i have sli disabled atm, so single 8800gts, and thats the good 88gts not the crappy one the one with the g92 core that was re-used in the 9800 gtx+ and the gts 250, running my graphics cards at stock due to i got bored of benchmarking, but they are still quite amazing

the only thing my computer is really lacking on is ram, only 2 gigs, but im running 32 bit xp, so my 2g of ram running at 1066 (slightly downclocked from the odd number cpu multiplyer but i dont feel like checking the actual speed) is just fine

i honestly havent seen my computer struggle with anything, so that q2e kills it.... :/ it just says VERY poor programming to me

Seems to be shaping up that way. Too bad....it's a pretty glossy Engine.

bad programming doesn't effect one computer & not the rest.  It's something with your computer.  Maybe the drivers don't support something needed (been known to happen).   Maybe you have a bad windows install & now it's showing through.  Who knows.

One time the MS duel core drivers broke the internet on my XP install.  I could rollback the update & go with single core, or use the update & no internet.  Only solution was a complete reinstall.  some things just don't seem related to each other, but are.

eh, i do a complete reformat every time i throw new hardware in, last time i did that was a new motherboard, and i was benchmarking 3dmark06 for awhile afterwards, so im 99% sure that something like a bad xp install / driver issue is not the problem

just kinda sad really... hoping some one could just do a modified egl engine with the q2e partical effects and high res models the high res textures used in q2e are pretty easy to find, but those partical effects are sooo sexeh... and egl is actually programmed very well so it would run much better
