I was playing and foxy (EE), spawn and her friends were talking about me for about 15 minutes. They were making fun of me and I was having fun too. I even answered some of their jokes about me.
But then someone came with the idea of muting me. I said something like "wtf? Youre talking about me for 15 minutes and Im not saying anything. Whats the point?"
I even said it would make no difference, cause I wasnt talking
No response and I recieved a message from WallFly telling me that I was muted.

Uh.  I can't  find evidence of a single mute on xrazy in the month of November.

Further, spawngirl doesn't have the means to mute someone.

The last mute on xrazy was a 60-second auto-mute in October:

Further, the only mutes on xrazy in the past 9 months were all similar 60-second auto-mutes by wallfly.

So, it's pretty strange.  I don't find any evidence in the logs that indicates you were muted.  (And, as stated above, spawngirl doesn't have the ability to mute players anyway.)


I do find a situation a few days ago where you were named "queersmo" and people were trying to figure out how to ignore you, so an admin (via wallfly) offered to help everyone "ignore queersmo".

An obvious point here would be that she should not allow herself to be "bothered" by such trivia.

You can check the logs. Youll see I was just playing and ignoring her insults.

I know I'm kinda wrong about the skin, but thats no reason for an admin to act like that. No one can play on xrazy now because she keeps changing the maps everytime I take the lead.

It's true that any tastyspleen admin who behaved that way would lose their admin access pronto.

Note, however, xrazy is an INDEPENDENT ZONE server.  Anyone can get an INDEPENDENT ZONE server by renting a port from us, and they can admin it according to their own rules.  In the case of xrazy, I set up the server port for spawngirl, waiving the rental fees based on the sheer amount of effort she has put into creating content for the xatrix mod.  She has scoured the web for interesting Q2 maps and has made some 90 or so map conversions for xatrix.  Anyone who puts that kind of effort into expanding the Q2 universe, gets their own server as far as I'm concerned.

That aside, I think it's quite childish of her to degrade the playability of the server because she is "bothered" by your antics.

I know about the independence. Thats why I asked if I should talk about this in here. I dont want to ruin the server. Im really enjoying xrazy, but Spawngril has to understand shes not the center of the world. She says Im only there to bother her, but I didnt even know that was her server when I first came there. You will find no talk between me and her before the day she used my name (in the same day, she was using D.Camperone name and killing herself to fuck his stats). People were always making fun of her and I never said a word before that.
Its not the first time I try different mods. Ive been playing this game for about 10 years now. Do you really think Id go through that playing "vanilla" only?

My point with this topic was only to make you aware that some people were using my name and saying shit to other player and destroying their game.

Doesn't quake 2 come with built in flood protection? Does that show up in the wallfly logs? I could understand if this was just a confusion of the built in flood protection as opposed to the custom wallfly "mute-by-user via the q2admin add-on" dealio.


As for changing names to screw around, I don't see the big deal. As long as it is in FFA and there are no scores at stake it is usually in good fun. Yes, people could take it too far, but you play a game about killing people with violent weapons. School-yard style pranks shouldn't be an issue. It's not much different than when I change my name to "Vlad the Impala" to tease the player named suzuki or "Maternity Ward" when I'm competing with triage for a top spot in vanilla. Just stupid pranks.

On a related note, I did see esumo (speling?) wearing the spawny skin yesterday and assumed it was spawn girl pretending to be him  . Im pretty sure that the real eumesmo has a lower ping and I figured out from that that it was the real guy. I'm not sure why he wore that skin, but I've been seeing quite a few XZ members lately so I didn't start any stupid jokes like usual. Interesting to see the thread after having seen the skin.


I guess this has drifted into a conversation about Xrazy? I'm a good candidate for Focolar's description of liking the overrides but rarely playing on the server. But don't forget that we got the most players when we use XRAZY as a splatterfest event. I honestly hope we get the same turn out for BANG. Anyway, in my opinion based on the high user turnouts for splatterfest then it is enough to support liking the overrides.

I'm sad to see a split in the xatrix community. XATRIX used to be a pretty active server and it seems to have changed. XRAZY is a completely different experience from XATRIX and I honestly preferred the XATRIX experience for the casual game. XRAZY is fun with a big group of players, but XATRIX was like Vanilla for the xatrix expansion. Casual games with players of varying skills... and cows!

I'm the 150~160 pinger. Her ping is about 300. I think I never used her name in a moment she wasnt there. So, if you see eumesmo starts making fun of her while shes not there, its not me.

I understand what you're saying about using it maliciously. I misunderstood the circumstances. I know that Spawny and co. like to pick a person of the week/month to pick on. Looks like this behavior hasn't changed. I try to keep my exchanges with spawngirl as quick and "professional" as possible so that I can avoid these shenanigans. Unfortunately I'm passive aggressive, avoid confrontations, and try to get a long with everyone. So I have trouble simply writing people off.

the general rule of thumb with servers is "admin = god".  So, nothing you can do here to really alleviate the problem.  IE people have complained my server doesn't use AC, doesn't do this & that, but it's my server, not quadz, so there's nothing HE can do. 

I'd say your best bet is to e-mail spawny. 

As for the xrazy server, i'd say it's one of the top 10 with wallfly.   dm & vanilla being the top two (and I constantly get slaughtered on).   So if it's popular then it's popular.  Like I tell ETQW complainers: don't play on servers where you don't like the way it's run.  Enough people who do that will force a change somewhere.

Camping is part of the game. It's a strategy as much as run and gun is.
There are three ways to deal with campers:
1. Quit, and come back later on a new map. Deal with being called names for quitting.
2. Stop spawning. Go get a cup of coffee, take a break, come back when the map changes. Nothing frustrates a camper more than having nobody to spawn-kill.
3. Get the skills and stack needed to directly kill a camper and hunt him down at every opportunity. Deny him his camping spot and favorite weapons. Nothing satisfies like beating a camper at his own game.

As for admins who use their privileges against their opponents, this is cheating of the first kind. Only the aim-bot wall-hacker is lower than a cheating admin but they are close to being the same rank somewhere below pond scum.

Being an admin means you are supposed have the judgement and maturity to let people enjoy the server and abuse each other as they see fit. It means arbitrating disputes like this one without getting personally involved. It means you enjoy the game, knowing it's a game, without getting all upset and kicking, muting or cheating on players you don't particularly care for. An admin who uses their power to punish or frustrate her clients or cheat on them or to discourage them deserves to admin an empty server. The admin can define and enforce the rules of the server, but they must be clear and complete and apply to ALL the players, including the admin.

If you don't like the way the server is being run, don't go there. If you really need to play the mod then download the components and build your own server, just make sure you don't admin it like the fools you say you don't like.

Back in the days of modems I played the old LOX mod. There were only a few servers on and one was run by a chick named Newbie. She lived in So. Cal. and had a server. Her power trip was to use admin access and 5 ms ping against players with 300 and 500 ms ping. If she was on the server or joined the game and started her cheating, players didn't stay long. Needless to say, she was soon all alone on her server. The server disappeared after less than a year.

Playing nym games is as old as online gaming. Enjoy it. It's stupid, but it's stupid fun.

If you find a lot of players are ganging up on you every time you join a server or on every server you go to then perhaps it's your online personality or the way you are playing the game that is causing this. Maybe it's you? Time to evaluate your playing style or online personality and get a different name and begin anew.

On the subject of overrides....
If you have ever been involved in constructing maps, there is a lot of design and balance involved. It's not just slap up some walls, put in the most common weapons and throw some ammo around. It really takes time and experience to design a proper, balanced map that will make for good gameplay, and people continuing to play it. Overrides is really, in a sense, amateur map-making. But possibly done by people who have never designed maps. Inexperience can result in poor judgement. If you have too much armor and health the match takes too long because no one dies.  You don't need a lot of strategy because bailouts are everywhere. It also reduces the challenge. Placement of items is important as well. Not to say that no thought or effort wasn't put in to the decision-making, but there is an art to the physics of it all and not everyone can do it. I remember seeing a map long ago that had tunnels filled with adrenalines, in a cramped hallway type map. Bad design and pointless.
The best overrides I have seen have been the tweaks made to the standard Vanilla maps. They all have improved the gameplay and flow of each map. Something as simple as eliminating an elevator button to speed up movement etc etc. In fact we have all accepted these changes as the "normal" maps.

I was misquoting Shakespeare.  (Queen Gertrude in Hamlet: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks.")

Basically I was implying that I was skeptical that you are an innocent bystander and that other players are annoyed with you for no reason.

(Although I suppose that could be possible, if from the very beginning, someone spoofed your name and acted like a jerk, and since then you have been dealing with the repercussions.)
