Haha, actually I was a little nervous typing in the ban.  Accidentally kicking eumesmo was an acceptable risk (he wasn't playing anyway.)  But, there was the outside possibility it could kick every player on every tastyspleen server globally, if i typed it wrong.

I dont care about the skin, but Im not gonna change it just because she wants. In the minute you say I can use any skin I want to play there ill change it.
I hate keeping the same name or skin for a long time. I always use crakhor, but rarely stay with it for the whole game.
Im using hers now as I kind of stupid protest. Like I said, Ill change it. What I really want is to be able to use it or any other skin if I want without being bothered by any other player.

The current situation is this:

1. I have temporarily removed spawngirl's access to "timelimit" and "fraglimit" commands until I have a chance to discuss her use of them.  (She doesn't have access to kick or ban, so it seems apparent she was trying to use timelimit to achieve the effect indirectly. However, I don't feel that is appropriate, because it punishes the whole server.)

2. It seems clear to me that if spawngirl had access to the ban command, she would simply have banned you in the first place, rather than trying more blunt methods with the commands she had available, like gamemap and timelimit.  Since I have temporarily removed her access to timelimit and fraglimit (as stated above), I have correspondingly also entered a ban on your IP (only on xrazy!), which I presume is the intent behind her actions.

NOTE: Whether or not you deserve a ban on xrazy by tastyspleen standards, is not what I'm attempting to address here, as this isn't a tastyspleen zone server.

However, in fact she doesn't have access to the ban command because it requires knowledge of IP's and netmasks, and she doesn't have access to IP's and (presumably) doesn't understand netmasks even if she did have access to IP's.  So, she's supposed to contact me in order to ban someone.  I don't know why she didn't in this case.


(Again, whether or not you deserve a ban from my personal point of view is not what I'm addressing here. Obviously, you're not banned on any tastyspleen servers.)

If you have ever been involved in constructing maps, there is a lot of design and balance involved. It's not just slap up some walls, put in the most common weapons and throw some ammo around. It really takes time and experience to design a proper, balanced map that will make for good gameplay, and people continuing to play it. Overrides is really, in a sense, amateur map-making. But possibly done by people who have never designed maps. Inexperience can result in poor judgement. If you have too much armor and health the match takes too long because no one dies.  You don't need a lot of strategy because bailouts are everywhere. It also reduces the challenge. Placement of items is important as well. Not to say that no thought or effort wasn't put in to the decision-making, but there is an art to the physics of it all and not everyone can do it.

As an aside, I've had several conversations w/ spawngirl while she's been working on an override.  She seriously agonizes over the placement of items.  I recall when she made the koth7 override for vanilla, she was shocked to learn that on vanilla, the powershield she had placed in a specific location would be auto-replaced with the less powerful power screen.  She felt this altered the balance she was trying to achieve and diminished the reward for reaching this particular area.

She has certainly tried various experiments... I happen to enjoy her xbeach override, but that one's got a plethora of megahealths, red armors, and quad damage all over the map.  It's interesting, kind of like rene24 on steroids.

But anyway, I'm aware her overrides are sometimes controversial, but I can confirm a lot of thought goes into them.

Two things to note about the original item placements in maps in xrazy. First, most are Action Quake 2 maps  whose original item placement was meant for a total conversion that in no way resembles good balance in standard quake 2. Second, the XRAZY server is for Xatrix which has 5 new pickups. So not only do these items need added, but the addition of the items changes the balance of the original item placement.

I personally have a few CTF and Quake Chi (one of my own mods) maps that I would like to see some overrides for. I've been too lazy to post them up for a formal request though.

I'm using her skin and thats it. Thats the "problem" Im giving you. I dont change maps or timelimits, I stopped talking to people, ignore those who insult me when I come in...

You got it wrong about the skin changing. Like I said, at first I didnt even know that was her server. When they told me that, I thought I would be banned. What I think now is: even if she cant ban me by herself, sure she can ask someone else to do it for her.

WallFly[BZZZ] on the forums is generally a forum moderator or server admin

The WallFly you encountered was me.

Your unban wasn't intentional.  Your IP is very dynamic, and had jumped another 16-bit subnet.

I have been known, for better or for worse, in moments of frustration, to take an easy path to solving a problem, once said problem has consumed some amount of my time that I feel is unreasonable.  That was the context of the following remarks:

WallFly: NOTE: the only thing making the ban difficult is restricting it to xrazy.
WallFly: I can ban his whole ISP from tastyspleen instantly... which i don't want to do, but if he keeps wasting my time, i will.

The context is, I've spent several hours of my Saturday and Sunday on this issue.  I have at my disposal the easy means to type one simple command to globally ban your ISP from all tastyspleen servers.  I feel that would be an incorrect decision, as I consider this issue as something that just pertains to xrazy.  However, unfortunately, my scripts don't currently allow ISP bans on a per-server basis.  So I'm restricted to subnet bans on xrazy, and your IP is very dynamic and easily jumps from subnet to subnet.

So, the more of my weekend that gets sucked into this black hole of nonsense, the more I think about just typing "wf ban gvt.net.br" and getting on with my life.
