Please dont change the xrazy xatrix code.

you can make tests in xatrix server changing the traps...

If you change the code in xrazy i would have to make like 200 overrides again..
And if I not make the changes the maps will have a diferent sense...

But is not just for that reason:
and i dont like the idea of change more the original code

The actual mod is similar to the original mod.. i like the mod like is right now.
If is possible pleas dont change the code in xrazy

But i dont like the idea of ruin the original game because 2 playes hate traps, they have mutant or dm or vanilla to play  :'(

xatrix and xrazy use the same code.  (same binary)

The cvar is sv_trap_health.  It defaults to "0" which means traps can't be killed.

What the '2 players' did, was help me find the motivation to code an idea I've wanted to try for years.

I like traps a lot.  But I have wanted to see what it would be like if they could be destroyed by weapons.

I've enjoyed xatrix for quite awhile... it would not be my intent to "ruin" it.

your lil server is still a silly place full of trap spam.

nothing was changed except on xatrix, and after playing there today I can say that not much was changed there either except that Palin2012 can't get a frag for shit now, and it takes about 5-6 seconds of sustained firing at a trap WITH AIMING REQUIRED to even see the difference.


The changes are independent of any maps as well, so nothing would need to be changed in your overrides.

I know that, but im not a asshole making overrides and placing weapons at random

I think before make a override.

If some weapon or ammo change then i must change things in the overrides to make the map playable and  to keep the "sense" planned for the game.

Even the sounds have sense in every place and, some sounds are consistent with the ammo: Like in xrefuge, where is a hidde trap, you can listen: "Now I understand that there are things worse than death, and one of them is sitting here waiting to die"

Then if some player like palin stay there to get many traps during a hour he will listen "Now I understand that there are things worse than death, and one of them is sitting here waiting to die" many times, is like a JOKE ... My language barrier dont allow me to explain better.. :raincloud: :raincloud:

In the same way a change in weapons can affect other things doing bored the map in many aspects.
To change a weapon changed many things, not just the audio...

BTW I played on xatrix today (dont saw you there) and i shoot against the trap, almost 7 shoots with railgun. Finaly the trap exploded killing me, and I had 100 % health. then...??

I dont understand.. and you rarely play xatrix, you are a forum fan more than a xatrix player.

You should be happy!  Because:

If you are stuck because a trap you can suicide and continue playing

Right?

You have not lost any options.  You can still suicide.  You can still wait 30 seconds.  And now you can also try to shoot the trap and take your chances.

Anyway, as I said this morning:

I'm sure it all could use some tuning, hard to predict what it will be like in an active environment.  But... my goal was for this to be tuned such that it is for the most part a gameplay-neutral modification.

I have played several maps on xatrix today.  From my point of view there is almost zero difference in the overall feel of the game.  The play mechanics and rhythm of the game seem unaffected.

Yes, someone far away from other players can shoot a trap, but there is a penalty in ammo and health (explosion) for doing so.  Maybe the explosion is a little too powerful, I don't think it should kill someone with 100 health (it usually doesn't.)  But that is a tuning issue.

But in terms of the feel of the gameplay, to me it is almost entirely unchanged.  One thing I did find surprised me were the audio cues.  You can hear someone shooting a trap in the next room, and for me it lent a slight sense of urgency to run over and do battle with them.  I think that is a positive outcome.  (Previously I might not have known they were there.)

From my point of view, I think this is a change that can add to the game, without taking anything away.

I appreciate that.

However, in my opinion this new code does not affect the play balance in a way that would call for changes to item placement.

Yeah, I noticed that popping a trap seemed to cause an explosion a bit too powerful. If it could only knock someone down to about 10 health at the most (from 100), I think that would be sufficient. I noticed that it took about 9 rail slugs to pop it. I guess that's cool, seems a bit much, but it defeats the purpose of having the trap if you can get out of it too easily. Also, I don't seem to remember the trap popping itself within a few seconds after fragging one player, I thought they remained there for a full 30 or 45 seconds to frag as many people that were sucked into it during that time. Was that changed? If so, I think that's a great change. On occasion I may even intentionally walk into one now just to get it the hell out of the way.

To spawny:
Dervish WAS at xatrix yesterday, at about the same time I showed up. He was using the alias "Tycho" as he frequently does. While I think the maps you made overrides for are eye catching, some of them don't seem to be too practical for that particular mod. Some of them are far too large, you spend too much time hunting for other players. Like I said, all the real-life city themed maps are cool to look at, but there are far too many hallways that are just too narrow to make it any kind of a challenge to hit an opponent in those areas. All someone has to do is point a railgun down the center of the hallway and they are 90% guaranteed to get a hit. Also, there's far too many extra ambient sounds added. It makes it difficult to hear whats going on around you.

Ya........ I'd originally pictured knocking about 75 health off...  there's some builtin randomness to it, the trap's actually setting off an explosion with a radius_damage of 250.  But the player will be a few feet away from the origin since they are backing away from the trap suction....

I can try radius_damage of 200 instead of 250, that might work out about right...  (I ought to make it a cvar so I don't have to recompile to try different vaules :))

Yes; trap health is currently 900.  I definitely didn't want it to be too easy...

That's the standard behavior, actually.  Once the victim is sucked in, the trap processes the bodily remains and spits out a delicious food cube.  The trap then disappears.  They've always been one-shot. :)

would be cool to destroy the trap and not to die in a TEAM SEVER. so you can save your allies... but idk.. :(

if you can destroy the trap (between bullets and bombs flying near of your head) should be more valuable, like a BFG explode..
