Badass new KMFDM, not bad for a 30 year old band.  :>

autoplaying it :P

Dark Side has sold approximately 34 million copies worldwide.
The album is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for being on the charts longer than any
other album in history, namely 591 consecutive weeks or 11.4 years in Billboard top 200! A total of approx 14 whole years (754 weeks) in and back in top 200, and a staggering 26 years in some Billboard chart
or rather.

Edit by admin: For the love of Zeus, comrades! Please don't set autoplay on the embedded flash tags. It spams noise on the "view most recent forum posts" page too.

lol autoplay.

That video sounds totally off, by the way. I don't know how they mess up the sound like that, but that's not what Dark Side of the Moon sounds like.

<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/TY5winxPMvA/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TY5winxPMvA"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/TY5winxPMvA" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/TY5winxPMvA</a>
^What it actually sounds like.
I haven't listened to Dark Side of the Moon in ages; or any prog for that matter. Been listening to so many different types of music lately.

Why it sounds different:

One of the two videos was made to play at a slightly slower or faster speed in order to pass YouTube's automatic copyright bullshit. It works kinda like Q2's anticheat. When you upload a video with audio that matches anything loaded into the database, it automatically removes the video and gives a copyright infringement strike or it flags it and notifies you that it may be in violation of copyright shit. By slowing down or speeding up the audio, it no longer matches anything in their database and it'll ignore it.

What percentage up or down from the original does it have to be to pass the test?

BTW, I've been blasting the shit outta this song recently.  This song sounds like I'm back in the mid-90s again instead of the post-emo/rap garbage era we live in now.  Leave it to Alice In Chains to actually keep the original sound going that made them great, and with a new lead singer on top of it!

Well that's dumb. Why would you even upload an album to youtube if it doesn't even sound the same?

This song sounds like I'm back in the mid-90s again instead of the post-emo/rap garbage era we live in now.

Depends what you mean by era.

Depends what you mean by era.

2010's.

Still doesn't sound the same to me though. Hard to find anyone to sound pretty close to Layne Staley without sounding like you're TRYING to sound like him, which would probably not be a good idea. Cantrell and Staley's voices just worked together so well that it's hard to get used to anything else.

Jerry Cantrell put out a couple of solo albums. The first one was pretty good and did pretty well commercially. The second one wasn't as good.

AIC- We Die Young
<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/6JA25BIxgtk/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6JA25BIxgtk"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/6JA25BIxgtk" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/6JA25BIxgtk</a>

Jerry Cantrell - Dickeye
<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Dm64hSOzAuU/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Dm64hSOzAuU"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Dm64hSOzAuU" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/Dm64hSOzAuU</a>

Hah, those solo albums were funny.  The talent behind AIC lies in Cantrell at the core.  Most of everything written musically was composed by him.  Staley just carried the tenor voice for the band, and for sure their voices blended well.  Of course, all the original members of the band went to school together and were at least somewhat musically accomplished.

The 2009 AIC album with Duvall was hit-or-miss I noticed with a lot of the songs.  The first single which had decent radioplay, Check my Brain, was a miss for me as far as the old sound goes...lil too pop.  The next one though, Your Decision, sounds like some straight-up old-school AIC goodness.  Probably because it's primarily Cantrell singing on it.  You can tell that's his baby.  :>

The newest single, Hollow, does remind me a lot of the old sound and harmonies they used to pull off.  It's updated with the newer level of effects and frequency for nowadays, but overall, the song reminds me a lot of the old shit they used to play that made them famous in the first place.  Rich, overbearing (and not in a bad way) harmonies over beautiful structures.  My main point is that if Hollow is a taste of how everything on the 2013 album will be like, I see very little to complain about.  Plus I hate to say it, but Duvall has a better voice than Staley did.  The dude wouldn't quit heroin long enough to truly develop his talent.  How bad it truly got can be heard in one of Staley's later recordings (not with AIC btw):

<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/YjX35fMkwi4/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YjX35fMkwi4"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/YjX35fMkwi4" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/YjX35fMkwi4</a>

Keep in mind, he sounds tired on the level of an 80 year old man in this song, and about as healthy as one too.  He was only 30 then.  Of course, a little admitted-to secret is that even if he was sober, he didn't have the best tenor voice in the world (like I said, Duvall's is better, purity-wise anyway), but he would've sounded a helluva lot better than that shit.

Anyway, I'm happy as shit they're making more albums period.  In this day and age of Lady GaGa, boring rap, dubstep, and post-emo trash, I'll take anything that reminds me of when music was actually great:  the 90s!  :>

2010's.
<snippetysnipsnip>
In this day and age of Lady GaGa, boring rap, dubstep, and post-emo trash, I'll take anything that reminds me of when music was actually great:  the 90s!  :>

You forget, there's still a lot of very good music being released today. You just need to look in the right places. After all, music like Lady GaGa and Justin Beiber is popular because people ACTUALLY like it... there's always been music like that. Besides, music is probably the most subjective thing next to what your favorite color is. There's also lots of good dubstep songs that don't really get as much publicity as someone like Skrillex (who's actually good at what he does, even if I personally don't care much for his music).

Speaking of music today in the 2010's that's good: I finally got around to listening to this album:

<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/SqQAEl1Mz1Y/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SqQAEl1Mz1Y"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/SqQAEl1Mz1Y" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/SqQAEl1Mz1Y</a>

Good stuff; really different.

And another song that was released just a few months ago:

<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube" style="display:inline-block;width:100%;max-width:640px"><span style="display:block;overflow:hidden;position:relative;padding-bottom:56.25%"><iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/lqQCuhLOMck/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover;border:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;width:100%" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lqQCuhLOMck"></iframe></span></span><br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/lqQCuhLOMck" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/lqQCuhLOMck</a>

Both of the songs above are dubstep, just not what you probably think dubstep is. ;>
Don't get me wrong, I love music in the 90's. In fact, I love music in the 80's and 70's too. It's all just music.

Yeah, there's still good new music being made.  It's just the problem is now good music is the exception.  In the 90s, it was the rule; everyone agrees really that the 90s was the last time music as a whole was "good" in multiple styles.  Same with the 70s you mentioned.  It seems like music goes back and forth every 10-20 years from massively sucks to awesome.  50s - gay.  60s - fairly gay.  70s - fucking awesome.  80s - gay & lame as fuck.  90s - fucking awesome.  2000s - GAY EMO.  2010s - lookin' like it's gonna be another 1960s - fairly gay, with a sprinkling of some good shit in there.  I guess the 2020s will be the cool decade.  That's gonna suck to have to wait that long.  :<

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
