After watching through that latest video, I honestly think that fractals have a place in 3d gaming.

Imagine shipping that rendering work directly to the hardware and using a variety of patterns to poly surfaces. You could just lay a texture over it and allow it to do it's own LODs based on distance.

It's more complicated than that but still. It'd be pretty cool.
