Skins, Models and Maps / Re: https://quake2download.pl/paki/
« on: July 07, 2020, 03:35:40 PM »
I've been there, downloaded quite a bit. The EGL friendly pak is awesome, as is the HD q2pro pak - really good. The weapons in particular and the env files.

2
For general knowledge - Yamagi added a commit for that error regarding an autoexec over 8kb.

And thusly I quote the great and all knowing YAMAGI:

"That's 's a good idea. I've bumped the buffers to 32 kilobytes. That should be enough for the next 22 years. ;)"

It would be in the next release or for the compiler crowd it's in the code now.

Cheers,

Yamagi never interested me. Doesn't seem to be an improvement and from what I gather people use it for convenience rather than quality.

Yamagi looks better and the mouse movement is on par or better (4 me) than any other client that does not deviate too much from the original Q2 standard. Quality wise it is better, but not equipped as completely, perhaps, for MP. In the last year or two it has moved more into the  MP spectrum with asynchronous and http capabilities among others as well, I would imagine.  Plus the developers are involved and super cool.

R1Q2 and Q2pro are super clients as well, and both are better and worse for different reasons than each other, and Yamagi.

Normally I could not care less, but do not dis the Yamagi.  :headbang:

4

P.S. I tried out Yamagi, and immediately got the old classic "Cbuf_AddText: overflow" error (autoexec.cfg > 8 kbytes). Yamagi seems to be missing a few quality-of-life improvements that have been added to r1q2 and q2pro over the years. Always tradeoffs of one sort or another I guess.

Cool. I put in an issue regarding your error. I am guessing you have a massive auto, mine is tiny at 1.6 kb. Will see what Yamagi or Daniel say.

Cheers,

Yamagi was and still is the defacto client for Linux, and a great Windows client also. Yamagi features a software mode, opengl 1.4 and 3.2. I think the soft mode is with coloured lighting as well, though I may be confusing that with Kondrak's Vulkan client which definitely uses the Kolorsoft ref.

Yamagi uses http and is asynchronous like r1q2 and q2pro. It supports Zaero, Xatrix, and Rogue unlike q2pro which is more multiplayer oriented. Yamagi is more SP oriented and has many fixes for the single player, but is also a terrific MP client as well.

You can't go wrong with Yamagi and the developers are very cool with issues or suggestions that you can bring up on their github page

https://github.com/yquake2/yquake2

Yamagi is currently being updated and new versions released periodically. I am certain it is the most worked on client currently.

Cheers,

**If you are interested, I posted a link below for the Vulkan rendered client. It supports a cool underwater warping effect like Quake 1 and is a good client as well, but no http or asynchronous behavior.

What the hell, one more pak. Uses Clau's player skins. Doom2 super shottie with a cool (I think so) pump action sound -all synced up nicely. Machine gun right out of Q2Test and a bunch of other things and stuff (other peoples' stuff ).

He should play soccer in Europe or South America. Cancer, 75...why not go out a real hero. He could give Greg Louganis a run for his money.

Or his feet are actually banana peels.

Quake / Looking for A Player Skin...
« on: June 11, 2020, 05:45:47 PM »
It was a tattered American Stars and Stripes flag uniform on a male player. The model was Pointman, I'm sure. It was a long time ago, so long ago I had it on a floppy which is long, long gone. There was also a Canadian Maple Leaf outfit on a male player, but it was head to toe covered with white and red.  The USA flag uniform was really well done, maybe the best I've ever seen. It was a pcx file I believe.

I know it's a long shot but does anyone have these? Particularly the American Flag model.

Thanks,

I didn't look at it really in depth, I just loaded up the first map in single player and looked at the 2 enemies on that map. The textures are very bright and washed out looking. (Note that I'm using R1Q2 and R1gl.) I'm typically using gl_modulate "7". But I even set it down to gl_modulate "1" (default value) and also set gl_coloredlightmaps from "1" to "0", and they still looked that way, so I'm gonna say that probably ALL of the textures in that monsters ZIP need to be darkened some way in Photoshop or something. The odd thing about Quake2 is it always over-exposes your texture images. You have to make the textures somewhat dark for them to appear correctly inside the game. A basic yellow color in an image when viewing it in Photoshop will over-expose inside the game and appear as white... unless you darken the image a bit.

Yeah, they are designed with bump-mapping in mind for Quake 2 XP, which I don't use. I like the definition in the facial features of some of the models. The Gunner and Enforcer are actually pretty funny, and the fact that they pop out because of their brightness is something I liked too, but I can see the flatness or washing out now. They lack the grittiness and depth of the old models (and some of the charm) in that sense. Maybe I will try out Berserker this weekend and see how they look in that engine.

Fragger's HD monster skins

https://www.moddb.com/mods/quake-2-monster-skins/downloads/fraggers-hd-q2-monster-skins

I extracted the "models" folder and it works with most clients that support the texture type used. R1Q2, Yamagai, Q2pro - the usual suspects. Here is the link to the models folder zipped. -

Just place/unzip the "models" folder into your baseq2 folder and it should work. The Tank Commander looks wicked, a pretty good arrangement of monster skins all around. The gibs are nice too.

Here is yet another pack I slapped together. I yanked the Super Shottie sound from the Quake 2 test beta and put it together for this, and did the machine gun which is silenced properly like a silenced gun (at least like movies) so, if you like a quieter machine gun.... I also like the textures in this a lot. Not Hi-res so not a massive pak. Uses Elysium's DM skins which are not pcx and Quake 3 sounds for players - Visor, keel, and one of the female characters from q3. Rest of the Pak is other peoples' work.

That guy in the first video looks more like he tripped over his own two feet. If he's that fragile maybe he should wear a helmet? -or not stand in front of a large group of cops, just doing their job, like a stupid asshole.

bro ur missing the point.

the police report omitted the fact that the cop even touched the man. u have a strong argument that the man mostly tripped, but come on. they are willfullly subjectively writing police reports to cover their asses. if this wasnt captured on video, the report will read the man tripped. this is what blacks are saying. cops do the dirty shit to them, a lot of times kill them, and it gets swept under the rug. All these videos are exposing the difference between a police report, a statistic and the truth.

chris hayes got a point. community policing has turned into militarized overseers.

in case any of you have never seen a blue line flag, this is what exists in many police depts all over the nation.

Yeah, I did miss the point. You're right , that is definitely a police operating procedure to deflect, omit and cover for buddy whenever necessary.

When all police sergeants, lieutenants, captains and chiefs start thinking like THIS, america will begin to transcend to the promised land. Watch the video from the 5 minute mark.

Quake / Another Useless Pak

Here's a cool pak (I think so anyways). Made it from two paks I DL'd from Realistic's PaK site -the snask.pak and ufclan.pak as well as other assets used. Need a fancy client to get the full effect but will work without jpg or png capabilities too.

Cheers,
