I have some truly unfortunate news. Our good friend, Quadz, has recently passed away. He frequently played on the servers and posted often on the forums here, and I felt everyone deserved to know.

Quadz was a big part of this community in many ways and he contributed so much over the years. Whether it was helping resolve server issues, offering his knowledge on someone's project, or just giving some feedback or advice on a topic, he was always there to lend a hand. Some of us knew him better than others, but I'd wager to say that his work has affected, in one way or another, just about everyone involved with the tastyspleen community.

While I mostly knew Quadz via online, I did get the opportunity to meet him in-person at a few Quakecons, and I will always be thankful for that. Over the years we've kept in touch and continued to chat and play pick-up games every week. I will miss those times and I will miss my friend.

If anyone wants to share a story, please feel free. Thanks everyone, and I'm sorry.

Since its been so long, will I need to d/l any particular mod, or is it all serverside. Also, Id be happy to donate some $$ for tastyspleen, ill see what I can do for that.

"Hey forum friends,

You guys have been real troopers with the elongated wait for registration information. While we're still not as close to the event as we've been in previous years, I know we're breaking the most recent pattern. In a gesture of friendship, I thought I would supply some facts to go with the registration "leaks" that we've had from a registration vendor.

1) QuakeCon 2010 is still, unquestionably, going to be a free-to-attend event. This includes our world-class BYOC, still available to fans of QuakeCon and id and Bethesda games at no charge.

2) To properly characterize the email that's been buzzing around the forums, we're going to have a premium registration option for the BYOC. At this time it's limited to a portion of the available seats, so it's impossible that the new option will "crowd out" the free seats. I've got to wait for a press release to be finalized before I can share more details, but I promise that I will as soon as I can and it's going to be pretty cool.

3) We're instituting some rather big changes in the registration process, as a result, if everything goes according to plan we're going to be able to maintain security while adding some great conveniences to the BYOC. Some goals on my agenda, thanks to these changes:

* Attendees will be able to enter and exit the BYOC with their laptop as often as they would like — with a security check at every ingress and egress.

* Attendees that are gaming on laptops will be able to bring a monitor in addition to their laptop to enhance their gaming experience. (There will be no additional space allocated for these attendees, the goal is not to support dual-headed gaming, but more of a docking-station-like setup.)

4) Our new registration system means that we'll be able to abolish the FCFS line entirely and run the lines at full speed at all times. I'll be able to give more details soon, but I'm really, really excited about how much this will improve "the line" at QuakeCon.

Anyway, this is all more-or-less "sneak peak" information about the registration process for this year, and nothing yet is finalized (or you'd already have your registration press release!), but it's depressing to listen to speculation that starts with "has QuakeCon stopped being a free, community event" and there's no positive conversation or rumors.

We're really doing our best to make this the greatest QuakeCon ever, and any/all effects that Zenimax has had on the event planning process have been entirely positive. This is looking to be a fantastic year!

Hopefully we'll be chatting about details very soon,

-- Ash "

So, as you can see, that is some great news for the upcoming event & should quash all of the rumors. The 'premium registration' thought is pretty interesting & eventho there really isnt any info what it is all about, it is quite obvious they are trying to make the registration process/line waiting much smoother than previous years. (Although if you just show up early its really not an issue, imho.)
Anyways, just wanted to give everyone, that doesnt regularly visit the qcon forum, an update.

Cheers!

I know :D ... thats part of the reason why I didnt book a room earlier. With what happened last year I got a bit worried thinking it might happen again. But i guess the mary kay convention is @ a diff location, so we should be all set ;D

Time to bump this thread.

I plan on going, and have gone ahead and reserved my room @ the Anatole. It appears they still have rooms @ the qcon rate (you have to mention qcon when calling). The price for those rooms are $154 US /night. If thats too pricey I believe there is a cheaper hotel across the street (i know a good amount of people decide to do that instead).
There are others going from the TS, but ill let them chime in if they want to.

Defiant - just from experience, not too many people play q1, q2 at qcon. There should be some servers tho ... so we could always get something going. I assume quake live will prob be the most active game in the byoc, and while I dont play it much here at home, its a blast in the byoc.
Im not sure they are going to provide any internet connection in the byoc ... they didnt last year.

Registration seems pretty late this year ... they havent announced anything yet. If you think you might want to go, id recommend watching the qcon site for the registration date & sign up early so you can reserve your byoc spot. If you decide later you cant attend, you can always cancel your spot.
Ill be sure to post here when they do have news on the registration date just in case anyone forgets or get lazy.

Quake / Re: Help us choose the 1st ever tastyspleen t-shirt !
« on: November 23, 2009, 05:24:33 PM »
First off, my apologies for the late response but i wanted to give everyone time to vote and/or chime in on the likes/dislikes of the current designs.

Im not an expert at this kind of thing by any means, this was my 1st attempt at doing some designs for a tshirt. It was alot of fun, altho sometimes quite frustrating ;D But im also totally open to everyones ideas. If say, we preferred to open this to the community and get a bunch of design submissions that'd be great too! I just want to get a tshirt going that everyone is really excited about.

If we want to go this route, there are a few things to keep in mind. I would like to keep these as vector graphics so they can be screen printed. The more colors you incorporate in your design the more expensive it gets. Because of this, a max of 2-3 colors should be used in the entire design (front and back). Also, it gets really expensive once you get into "wrap around" graphics (graphics that go around the entire shirt) or graphics that go over the seams on a shirt. So this should be avoided. If you have some ideas, but are unable to get over the hurdle of doing it in a vector program, im open to you getting a working design going & I can clean it up in illustrator.

As it stands right now, the #1 choice would win. I will either order approx 30 tshirts, get them shipped to my house and then ship them out to everyone that wanted to purchase one, or possibly use a web service like spreadshirt and open a web shop where the shirt could be purchased.

Thoughts?

We have come up with 3 final designs for a tastyspleen t-shirt. We wanted to ultimately leave up to you, the community, to decide which design we are going to go with.  :notworthy:  So, just vote for your favorite!

to be honest defiant, ive never order any custom tees my self ... but both http://www.cafepress.com/ & http://www.zazzle.com/ get good reviews. Also, I believe BadBrent has ordered from customink.com in the past and he had good results.

Well, just an update for all of you. We've been talking about a couple diff alternatives.

One is to go with a website where we can set up our own "shop" where we can have several diff designs, which could be printed on pretty much anything from tshirts to book-bags to coffee mugs. We could prob even put a custom clan tag on the back of the shirt if we wanted. The big downside to this is the cost. The way it works is the website charges a base price for the shirt (depending on how many colors used/type of shirt), then we charge a commission fee on top of that.

The other option is to go with 1 design & purchasing a bunch of shirts. The upside to this is that the cost per shirt will ultimately be cheaper. The downside being that you get 1 design, and no other options.

So, would you rather have just the shirts ... or would you pay more for the extra options ...

A couple of us are planning on designing a tastyspleen/tastycast t-shirt and we need your input. First of all we are trying to get a good idea how many small/med/large/etc should be ordered. But any input would be welcomed, for example what color(s) you prefer, if a long sleeved shirt or hoodie is preferred, or anything else you can think of. That kind of stuff.
