Quake / Quadz, the Loquaciously Multiloquent Member
« on: July 11, 2021, 02:05:52 PM »
I have some truly unfortunate news. Our good friend, Quadz, has recently passed away. He frequently played on the servers and posted often on the forums here, and I felt everyone deserved to know.

Quadz was a big part of this community in many ways and he contributed so much over the years. Whether it was helping resolve server issues, offering his knowledge on someone's project, or just giving some feedback or advice on a topic, he was always there to lend a hand. Some of us knew him better than others, but I'd wager to say that his work has affected, in one way or another, just about everyone involved with the tastyspleen community.

While I mostly knew Quadz via online, I did get the opportunity to meet him in-person at a few Quakecons, and I will always be thankful for that. Over the years we've kept in touch and continued to chat and play pick-up games every week. I will miss those times and I will miss my friend.

If anyone wants to share a story, please feel free. Thanks everyone, and I'm sorry.

A couple of us are planning on designing a tastyspleen/tastycast t-shirt and we need your input. First of all we are trying to get a good idea how many small/med/large/etc should be ordered. But any input would be welcomed, for example what color(s) you prefer, if a long sleeved shirt or hoodie is preferred, or anything else you can think of. That kind of stuff.

/dev/random / Urban Dead - Web Based Zombie Game
« on: February 28, 2008, 05:44:08 PM »
http://www.urbandead.com/

Ive been playing this game for the past few months, and it really is quite fun :)
It technically is a MMO, but since you only get 50 "Action Points" to spend (per day) collecting items, killing zombies, barricading buildings, reviving humans, etc, etc, etc. Its not like you really end up playing it for hours at a time. It only takes about 15-30 min to spend all of your points for the day.

The game is very simple - no fancy graphics here. You do get a "picture" of your surroundings in the upper left corner of the screen, but besides that its entirely text based. Here is what it looks like:

Here is a link to the FAQ if you are interested in reading more about the game ....
http://www.urbandead.com/faq.html

And if you do start playing, the game has a wiki set up with TONS of useful info, including a map of the city, with different sub maps for each individual suburb.

I highly recommend you check it out ! Im currently playing as a lvl 14 military medic, and I'm located in Roftwood @ St. Ethelbert's Hospital ... See you there? Maybe? :)

Quake / Farewell Jube !
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:47:39 PM »
It seems Jube will be taking a break from Planet Quake for a bit ... she will be missed by the Quake 2 community  :ilysign:

From the Planet Quake news page:
Quote
Goodbye to you, my trusted friend. We've known each other since we were nine or ten. Together we climbed hills and trees. Learned of love and ABCs... YES! I'm a sucker for cheesey tear-jerker songs. But in all seriousness folks, today is my last day as a regular newsie on Planet Quake. It's been almost seven years and you made my life a living hell! Nein! I kid you! I kid! We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun. Alright, enough of that song! It's been a pleasure servicing you all (/snicker). But don't think you can get rid of me for good. Quake was my first gaming addiction and even straight jackets can't keep me away.

Besides, if Pappy ever has to go away, he knows he can always leave the news keys with me while he's indisposed (best not to think of Pappy-R being indisposed for too long or you might go blind). I'll still be working on network sites and of course will be Planet Quake's #1 fan 4ever, like eh? Much love and chocolate to you all! Quake on peeps, because I'm watching you, especially while you're in the shower. And I'll know if you're slacking! /Hugs.

I would like to take a moment to just thank Jube for all of her hard work, slaving away day and night, always posting the Quake 2 news, and not forgetting about us over here at tastyspleen
:notworthy:
I wish you well Jube with what ever you are on to, and feel free to stop by any time to play a few rounds w/ us!
Take care!

Oh ...... and read THIS desktop !  ;)

art, music, etc. / taking requests ...
« on: August 08, 2007, 06:35:46 PM »
Afternoon! I finished putting up a site today, with a bunch of different logos/banners/pics/etc that I have designed.

Now, I know I'm not the best designer, but I do like and need the practice.  So I thought I would start taking requests from people.  If theres something you would like me to design for you, I would be more that happy to give it a shot.  As you can tell from my previous projects, I usually go for a grunge/dark look.  But I'm really up for anything.  And the best thing is - I'm free! Cant beat that :) If you don't like it - you've lost nothing!

So if ya wanna take a look - I'm at - http://quest.tastyspleen.net
My email addy is there, you can find me in IRC, or pm me thru the forums.

Thanks, and take it easy ~

Trouble Shooting / Video ghosting issues
« on: June 18, 2007, 11:38:11 AM »
Hi there :) I get these strange 'ghosting' issues when playing back video, from time to time.

Is it the way the video was encoded and thats just how it is when anyone plays it back ... or is it something else ?

If anyone else has/had this problem and knows of a way to fix it, id really appreciate it.  Here is a pic of what it looks like:

EDIT: Its not the video effect that was put on the demo, but that ugly blue box that covers part of the movie :(

1v1 and TDM Demos / 1v1 - unknown vs arcuz - q2dm1
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:46:43 AM »
I found this in my demos folder, Its an older one ... i think shortly after quake3 came out.

Anyways its a pretty good watch, the 'unknown' player can get around q2dm1 pretty well.

If anyone recognizes any of the players in the demo, please do tell :)

Quake / Tastyspleen Grenade 300 Tourney
« on: April 03, 2007, 05:09:09 PM »
Theres been quite a few people interested in this idea on the tastyspleen and btf irc channels, so id figure id see if everyone else agreed.

It'd be a very simple game, setup just like the TS500, but using sconfig settings, so only hand grenades would be available.  The fraglimit would be shortened to 300.

If theres enough interest in getting something like this started, ill start a new topic in the tourney section, setup a date on the calendar, and work out the details.  I just wanna hear what your ideas are for now. thx

Jump & Trick Demos / Quest's single-player map jumps
« on: February 06, 2007, 02:05:44 PM »
I wanted to make these demos more for the newer people starting to play quake 2 at Tastyspleen.  Basically, they are not really trick jumps, but jumps that can be really helpful during a FFA match.  None of them are very difficult, they just take a little practice.  I'm not a great jumper, so if I can get them done, anyone can.

What I think I will do is post a total of 4 demos a day(the max you can in one post), until I get thru all of the single-player maps.  Who knows, perhaps some of you "seasoned pros" will even see a thing or two you like.

Today I am posting demos from [base1 // base3 // train // bunk1]
