Well if the floppy light sticks on when the computer is booted on that 99% of the time means the cable is connected wrong... it's no big deal just reseat the cable in a different way. Don't worry it doesn't hurt your computer tech integrity having a floopy cable connected wrong... you asked so I delived the most common fix to that problem. Hope it helps!

Maybe it will, dunno. I don't use that machine very much anymore. It's OS is Win98. It's basically only my music studio anymore. Occasionally I'll use it to play some older games that won't seem to run on XP. Which is REEEEEEALLY fucked up in my opinion. I managed to track down the Redneck Rampage cuss pack add-on online a while back. Redneck Rampage installed, but wouldn't run, the window it opened the game in just minimized and said "inactive". It's basically a DOS program. Eh, oh well.

I really don't need the floppy drive anyway. If it doesn't work correctly anymore, it's not going to break my heart. I have a CD-RW drive in there for backing up and moving files anyway.

For what it's worth, dust is generally non-conductive; the biggest problems with its presence will likely be mechanical failures (removable drives, fans, etc.) and insufficient cooling (restriction of air flow or coatings on heatsinks, in addition to any fan breakage).

I'm "liberating" a can of air duster from work, after looking at that picture...

We just finished a major remodeling project on our house, and I bet I have about an eighth of an inch of dust and detritus living on my heatsinks.

Nah. They look like smeared mustard that had dried to a hard yellow crust.
