dm server: just another modification?

Even though the instructions are clearly stated on how to EASILY switch servers, it appears some players still have no idea how much tastyspleen has to offer.  I was stoked to see the addition of the DM server.  Unfortunately, it hasn't been attracting many players.  I think a lot of players just play on the default port because they don't know about or how to use the sweet GOTO commands.  Hopefully, those who have figured it out and play on the Vanilla server will start going to the DM server sometimes.  I don't mind playing those maps some of the time, but a majority of those on the Vanilla are friggin brutal to play. I think a lot of the people play on Vanilla because they don't know about DM.   The other night, I managed to get 6 people to join the DM server from the Vanilla server just by mentioning it in the Vanilla server.

As far as the Slimy Place map debate, I am in favor of whatever brings more people to the DM server.  Personally, I prefer the modded version.  Sooo much better.

I'm pretty sure the "default port" for Tastyspleen is the Mutant server.  That's what I get whenever I do the "connect tastyspleen.net" at the command line.

Correct, I should have clarified that.  The default port takes you to mutant.   My thoughts on mutant and vanilla are similar to Pan's.  I think some people just go to to mutant because it is the default and don't know about the other servers.  Those who figure it out, seem to go to vanilla rather than mutant for some reason.  I play on vanilla most of the time because it has the most people despite the plethora of total crap maps. If you wanted more people on the DM server, switching it to port 27910 would be the way to go since a lot of players just play on the default port.   Players who prefer mutant or vanilla would figure out how to find them.

I like the modded version of dm7.  The map changes from the original add much more fluency to the gameplay .... sick of tripping into the green goop by the hyperblaster

I've played another modded dm7 on Mart's Dirty Den (a UK server with some quite excellent custom maps) that mod had a railgun instead of a hyperblaster and a megahealth in the 'secret' area under the walkway with a teleport to save climbing back through the goop.  That also was an excellent edit of dm7 ... now if the two were combined ..... that would be dm7 heaven for me

I apologize if it seems as if I was complaining.  The reasons for my post are purely selfish.  I simply want more people to play regular DM maps because that is what I like to play.  I will shut up, jump on vanilla,  go run into another dead end, or find someone to have blaster wars with.
