that reminds me... wdrail01 seems to not work on the server for whatever reason.

out of the blue, I mymapped it the other day on railz, and the sky was causing an odd blurring/smearing effect on everyone who was playing.

once I used the "sky" command in console to change the one being displayed on my end to a solid color sky ("sky black" in console yields a nice result), the problem went away (same for everyone else who tried it)

I had never seen anything like this before.

I don't think the sky images that you can download off of the server were corrupt or anything as I never downloaded them in the first place (I uploaded them )  and the map works fine on my local machine, and used to work on the server until recently.

I'm really confused about this error.



It could be a problem caused by a corrupted bsp override file on the server.. Now that I think of it there might have been one made to correct the jump pad trajectory.

I mention this because in the worldspawn there's a key/value pair to control the rotation of the sky and it's rate, and if this was set too fast it could possibly create the smeared visual mess that was happening to the 5-6 players who were there at the time.

Hmm, beats me.  I haven't tried playing it on the server yet, but I did just download the .bsp from the server and it played fine locally.

Thanks for the map lists, that is very helpful.

The greatest good is the highest priority.

I'd agree in theory... But when choosing maps I think sometimes the greatest good is the sheerest fantasy.

For example (and this is NOT meant as a criticism)

  - your rotation includes semper06, but the guy who started this thread singled out semper06 as one of his two most hated maps on mutant

  - your mutant rotation includes q2dm1, 3, 8, but i've had people argue that not only should q2dm1 et al. never be in a rotation on mutant, the dm maps should be removed even from mymap on mutant, because their idea of mutant is a place to "get away" from the builtin maps

  - on vanilla you mentioned a dislike for bugdm5, gmap1dm2, hammer, outpost, ranbase2; however, I know a number of players like those maps (including me)

  - conversely on vanilla you advocated adding some maps to the rotation (bigspacegunup, koth6, wtf!2) which I know are strongly disliked by some players

  - your mutant rotation includes eleven marics maps, but on previous occasions we've had people petition on the forums to remove lots of marics maps from mutant

Again, this is not meant as a criticism... I just have a feeling that the 'greatest good' is a somewhat elusive concept in the context of map rotation.  I suspect if we took the intersection of everyone's loved and hated maps we'd have a pretty short playlist.

Interesting.  I'm not sure this is a universal problem.  It's possible you might want to bring that one up with your therapist.

A strong suggestion would be to make the rotation a combination of all the previous rotations on mutant and leave it at that.

I think he's refering to the q2dm1 (arenaquad) variant as opposed to the standard layout without the RA

I don't remember if the RA is always there now, regardless of the quad.. but that might be what he means..

It does definitely change the way q2dm1 is played on dm. for reference, I think its much more fun for FFA with the quad and RA, but it does screw up the routes you'd normally run if they weren't there.

nice reply ---criticism is always welcome 

I was offering  what we could do ( maybe not WWQuadzD )--- then my choices to be combined with others if that was the route we were going to take.

Secondly, to add those maps in would avoid 'that asshole' comments for those who mymap them ( and i purposely didnt include such gems as arma5 because so your proclivity to powerup and jump up )

Regarding Problem 1(my therapist is Scrotumus the wise --we have several issues that need immediate attention) if I am in and someone mymaps, to me they are saying "You beat me there now try and beat me here" --now I try not to play like that ..but . --and it leads to less fun for the one who mymapped. Conversely, I don't always mymap because I don't want to win by twenty and be the one who subjected them to that --or i don't mymap a map i know i'm going to get Elysiumed on. 

Finally, the servers have arenaquad (which is fun) but the quad,backpack, rail in middle and ra under stairs is not q2dm1-- the balance has been disrupted 

btw auh2dm3 also has the missing sky problem

Ah.  OK... yeah, that would be the case on vanilla and mutant...  The unmodified q2dm1 is supposed to appear on the dm server (in the non-powerups map run), however.

Aye aye thir....I have to agree.

Da big spacegun should be blasted off to another galaxy as well. However, I do know people who love those maps. They need therapy.

Rockit2u is one of my old maps and I'm surprised someone mentioned it. It was conceived as a simple rocket arena type map and the rail "cage" was added as a joke. Works though. One rail from the cage and you will receive 100 rockets back at you.

Dead simple being the end boss map filled with Mancubi  and Cacodemons? rotadoom3 is based on that map. (well the zDaemon deathmatch style of that map)

Actually, Dead Simple is map07, and first introduces the manc and the arachnotron. Great for beginning mappers (all right angles)
In regards to map conversions, I would like to see a *good* dwango5map01 conversion.
