Er, it's *supposed* to feel like a different game.  People have the hardest time grasping that it's not Quake2.  It's not even Quake2++.  But anyway, thanks for your other comments.  The renderer is certainly the most evolved and significantly rewritten portion of the engine.. it's where I've focused my efforts since last June.  And to your point, UFO:AI has already replaced their renderer with Q2W's, and Alien Arena is evaluating what it would take to do the same.

But lately I've been spending my time on the game module.  I don't want you to underestimate what would be involved in porting a Q2 mod to Q2W.  The game API has been, and will continue to be, cleaned up and trimmed down.  The current game module is about half the size of baseq2, and it supports teams, ctf, match mode, instagib, and arena all in one.  Porting a Q2 mod to Q2W would be more like porting to Qfusion or so.

Anyway, .. :)

As long as content does not need remade, It's pretty much a straight shot to re-code most mods. I could see a revamp of ChaosDM being a very possible first start.

peewee_RotA, as of this moment, we're still using Quake2's vwep support.  But very soon, our player models will be converted to .md3 (which the engine fully supports), and we'll be using tags to pin weapon models to player models (this is how Q3A does it).

If you having rsync error on Windows, try this.

q2w is A LOT of fun. I began playing back this summer but currently don't have the hardware to run it. Honestly, I thought it felt a lot like q2 taking a huge breathe of fresh air. The engine makes the graphics feel really clean and the speed of the game really gets the adrenal glands pumping. Rockets and rails fire faster, the hyperblaster is a bit more hyper and straife jumping is more like leaping but all in all the Q2 part of Q2W is very much intact.
