Some sort of "teleport" script?

It has been brought to my attention that someone has apparently developed a script that allows them to "teleport" ahead quickly and get faster map completion times.

Anyone have any more information about this?

I don't think it could be commandbanned tho, neither could it be disallowed by polling, since q2admin already polls users for a timescale change, these waits give you enough time to "teleport" somewhere with an extralarge speed, and q2admin doesnt have any chance to poll it. And if you make polling more often, it would be kinda spammy innit.

I invented it, yeah, yeah. I don't use it, just completed  two maps on every server to test if this is possible with different jumpmod and q2admin versions. These completions were already removed, and I wasn't even banned from Wireplay, and Neur0 (the main admin there) knows that I tested it and didn't ban me. How long will it take to understand?

Wait a minute... That variable is one of the "cheat protected" variables in the 3.21 sources.  So I don't see how that alias could work, unless someone is using a hacked client?

yeah, it doesnt work if you just type in the variable and its value, but it works with "set variable value"

It's usually bullshit, but not always.  For example, I created a wallhack a few years ago for the purpose of watching demos to catch others using wallhacks.

So far Lohmatiy has contacted me when he finds exploits, so that we can make the server more secure, which I find very helpful.

At first, he was talking of another exploit. At second, I thought they wouldn't use it to cheat, but alas, they did.  Anyways, they don't do it now.

Hmm, it does indeed work in 3.20.  Interesting.

So CL_FixCvarCheats() in cl_main.c isn't really very effective, apparently.

The difficulty here is this is not technically a hack of any kind.  It's merely an alias using built-in quake2 commands that are available to everybody.

Now it's obvious from the source code that id Software didn't intend for this alias to be possible.  But, nonetheless, it turns out it is possible, without any sort of hacking involved at all.

So... how do we deal with this?

Short of forcing people to use anticheat... I don't see an easy solution, offhand...
