Apparently the weapon "phaser" has been taken out of the WOD-X mod without any particular apparent reason. To me, this is complete BS, and I demand that it be put back into the game . I would also like a valid reason as to why such action was taken without anyones consent.

Well... I myself know nothing about wod-x... so we'll wait for someone who does to comment on it.

There's no doubt from the logs that you are very fond of the phaser, that's for sure.  (In all that time, only one other person got a frag with the phaser... JibJab at 17:50:04.)

From the logs, it's clearly seen that the removal of that specific weapon is the result of a personal bias rather than some accusation on using a cheating client. All other opponents have equally the same opportunity to use it. It just happens to be the case that I'm far more superior skilled...but still, that's no reason to remove the weapon from the game completely.




And if i recall, the mod is called Weapons of Destruction, not Weapons of Powder Puff Pussy's.

That weapon has been debated several times as being too powerful for the game. Hardly anyone uses it except for people who cheat (not calling you a cheater) because it really doesn't require any skill other than hold down the button and sweep your mouse around... It's similar to having a quad chaingun with a little more power, and this gun can be used just by picking up a railgun.

game balance is extremely important, if the game isnt fair and too one sided
it becomes unfair and just not fun at all

this is what has happened to MMOs now, you can spend the same if not more time then
some players and yet these players can get way farther. and you ask "why the fuck do i bother"
its not fun when you spend all that time and get no where. hence why i quit those games

but vanilla quake2 is balanced, its one of the most balanced games ever made
so when something messes with that, people get pissed

I agree that some of the weapons in Wod-X can be ridicuously overpowered, and if the regulars think it's way too much, I would support it's removal.

This is actually a fairly normal issue in all of the weapons mods. (LOX,WOD,WOD-X)
There are 2-3 weapons in each mod that by design were so unbalanced that certain maps become unplayable to 95% of the players in the game, after one person figures out the best way to exploit it.


Weapon mods do not provide the level playing field that most would come to expect in a quake2 mod, because of item placement on a map. If we set them up like ra2, where you get all the weapons to start with, then banning the Phaser or whatever weapon, would be entirely unfair.

as it is tho, you have to collect one weapon to use any of it's variations, and many maps only have one of each , in certain spots.

This allows for one player to use a ridiculously overpowered weapon to gaurd that exact same weapon, and insure that nobody else can level the playing field for the rest of the round.. This was NOT intended by the people that coded the mod, or by the person who made the map, it's usually just a side effect of mixing a mod with a map that wasn't designed specifically for it. (with all of it's unbalanced weapons in mind)

Take q2dm1, for example, since everyone should be familiar with it:
If you go into the rail pool and grab the rg in regular dm, people still have a decent chance of jumping in there and taking one and shooting you to break your camp.

In wod-x, a person who jumps in there gets met with a giant beam of death that can easily cover the entire area where you exit the pipe into the rg room, and they die instantly.
