Well, since we're coming up on the oh-so-exciting midseason baseball classic (anyone still watch?), I figured it might be fun to weigh in on who you think would make up an Xquake All-Star team. I would base my selections on skill only, not whether I like their gameplay methodology or attitude, etc. My top 9 players (in no particular order):

Apple
Punk
Majik (FAS)
JQuestt
Chattanoo
Warkilla
Arthur
SpikeQ2
Rogal

Of course, there's lots of good players not on my list, but I only chose 9, hence the baseball analogy. I could easily be dismissing someone obvious, as my bias is toward people I've seen recently on the server.

Anyone else have a top 9 different than mine? If you were a "manager", what 9 players would you want making up your XQuake All-Star team?

(Note: Since I started this thread, please leave my name off any list you might be inclined to put it on, as that would look a bit cheesy. There's plenty of good players to choose from!)

My All-Star List

Im not gonna just pick the best players I can think of ... Instead I gonna go for the players I think would play the best in a team situation

Im not saying these players are not skilled... for they all are, I just believe they would make a kick-ass team =D And IMO thats what really counts

Ok here we go, I picked this list using both skill and additude. I am sorry if i missed any body or left peeps out, but like slikk said, this on a recently seen basis.

first let me state that i am going to make snap judgements using myself as a yardstick. not cuz i think i am so great, but because i know how i compare to other players ALOT BETTER than how other players compare to each OTHER.
most of these people i have not seen play each other so i dont know how they would generally rank against each other.

there are so many people that i feel are very similar to my skill level, such as Questt, Spike, Slikkster, etcetera & etcetera, so I am just gonna mention the people i can think of offhand that i feel are clearly better than me.
To my perception. Probably others are as well.

Warkilla (damn cheap, camping, schizo, annoying SOB. i beat him about half and half it seems, but hes got a 150 ping from a DSL connect in Alaska)

I guess its harder to really know about the HPBs, but seeing how i fear them even with their pings, I think they must be better, and would likely whoop my ass if they had my ping.

I have only played Wedge once or twice on new maps and specced him a couple other times. He was camping pretty hardcore so it was hard for me to get a feel for him.
The camping was making me feel i could do the same thing if i was willing to be cheap and wait around for people at the rail or other key spots.

I was thinking of putting Ax2Grind on there, but he doesnt seem to do that much better and I am personally convinced that he wallhacks (as are several others I have talked to).

heheh Chatt, my paranoia suggests your sig is meant for me. Like I told you in the game, sometimes I'll just say that to razz someone, hoping that the adrenaline rush (f*ck that rat bast@rd Slikk for calling me a camp!) might get them a little tight on the mouse and flub a few shots.

Doesn't win me the Mr. Congeniality award, for sure, however...lol. But don't take it seriously. For some odd reason my skill level is very inconsistent at best, lately. I also find my connection varies greatly (meaning my fluidity in the game) from day to day, even given the same ping range and lack of packet loss. So, who knows? Must be all that Dunkin Donuts coffee.

I had to put Wedge on my list even though he seems to be a newcomer to xqauke, because when I have played him he has frustrated me to no end with his precise railing

Rogal IS damn good! Another HPB who is pretty good is Fishbone, even though he does his fair share of camping

Hey, what a fun thread--sorry I'm so late coming in on it!

I'm with Chatt (or whoever made this point): it's hard for me to tell who is better than someone else; all I really know is who kicks my ass. I can do little to improve on the lists that everyone has come up with; in fact, I don't even know some of these names since I hardly ever play at night. I have no quarrel with any of the names put forth so far--they're all worthy of all-star status. All I can do is suggest a couple of additions:

(1) There's a new guy in here with great ping (around 30) and respectable skills. He's no aj or questt (god damn it, q, why do have to spell that with two Ts?), and Chatt says he camps a fair bit, but he is a very good player. He has been using the name "Koni" lately.

(2) Any of you remember that guy Kizz? In my early days, I always thought he was a bot (I probably thought that about half of you, to be honest). He could be really hot on rail maps.

(3) Another low-ping guy with awesome skills whom I haven't seen around in a long time is a guy called "Johnny Cumpants." Now there was a guy who knew how to use a BFG--I'd rank him right up there in the Skills Pantheon with the legendary Sloan, which takes me to my next point...

(4) Where is Sloan? And why?

I miss having him call me "Fool!" when I call him "Camper".

He's harmless, but has cost me a couple of games when I'm tied with someone at the end of a map and he spawn-camps me while the other guy wins...heheh.
