There's no shortage of stupid people in this world. Every country has masses of them. Maybe they're the majority of people - I don't know. But it doesn't really matter. The people running the corporations, starting businesses, running all aspects of government and planning, doing scientific research etc are the ones who are intelligent and run the country - economically,  politically and militarily. And the United States has these people in spades. Probably more so than any other country at this time in history. It is this chunk of the population that defines that country and contributes to its success. The rest are the followers, leading simpler lives and have little impact on the world one way or the other.

One of the video responses to him had a good argument that it isn't so much ALL Americans that are having these problems, just certain segments of our population that are particularly underprivileged. 

I think the point this guy makes about Americans not entering science and engineering fields is pretty telling though.  Our "sole superpower" status is certainly not going to last long if we can't fill the positions necessary to keep our technological advantage.  I've read that we can't even import enough people from overseas to fill the vacant science and engineering positions that are opening as the Baby Boomers start to retire.  Our immigration laws prevent that.  I don't know what the solution is.

watching that shit gave me a headache halfway through, I mean, just having to look at that guys face was really enough to make me wanna turn it off, actually watching this has lowered my opinion of you tube even further, its like a place for anyone to upload whatever kinda of retarded shit they want, I think they are in desperate need for someone like GYN there to put people like this in check

I don't think I know anyone who can't find england on a map, that's just plain rediculous, only a very small percentage wouldnt know that sodom and gomorrah were places and not people (and mind I have maybe 1 friend that reads the bible)- and I wouldnt consider my group of friends to be above average intelligent, most of them arent college graduates (neither am I yet though) - not saying anything against them, just that I don't spend my time around rocket scientists

also the stats on how many foreigners that are here being engineers has jack shit to do with who is smarter, most of those people are here because either the company hired them because they could get them to work for less or they simply moved here because the pay rate in their back woods 3rd world country isnt half of what theyre going to make here

I mean I can name a few of the jackson 5 too lol but that doesnt mean I know anything about them, just heard their names in conversation, if people actually sat around talking about the ten commandments we all would know more about it, so how does knowing something about one thing and not knowing about the other mean your smarter, I've taken a few iq tests over the years, and I didn't see any questions about the bible or the simpsons anywhere on them - wheres the logic?

Well, I don't really care what his bias is or if you can't stand the guy.  Who cares who this guy is?  Why attack him?  It's the statistics he's saying that are important - if they're true.  They're well referenced from the links he put up.  You should follow them - some indicate what recycled has posted: that other developed countries are just as bad at locating their own countries on a map.  But some seem to indicate how we're having trouble.

Saying that we can't import enough foreign techs to fill our positions here is pretty important.  It doesn't have to do with who's smarter, it has to do with our inability to get our own people interested in the most important fields for our "dominance".

Maybe I have a limited perspective on this, because I've only worked in IT (specifically voice/data communications), but I think that's utter BS.

I was just giving my opinion about what he had to say - I think posting a youtube video is no different than posting a q2 demo, and is subject to everyones criticism

not like I said anything derogatory, I just think he's after peoples attention, and I think he twists the statistics to try and prove his case

I'm sure a lot of his statistics are correct although I'm suspicious of his claim about importing jobs. Maybe the point he is making should have been that, in this day and age, with basic education available to everyone, and any knowledge available to you on the internet, TV, books, libraries etc - there's no excuse for anyone to be illiterate or have such a lack of knowledge of the world around them. The opportunities for learning at any higher level are also here.
