www.quakecon.org - Going to be a best of 3 with all 4 quakes played in the tournament. One player picks a map (i'll pick q2), another picks theirs (q3 lets say), and the third map if necessary is random (coin flip - either qw or q4). Should be interesting.

I think that format sounds pretty weird, but I think it's really cool that Q2 will be played at another quakecon.

Neat, I've always thought of something like this happening. There might be a few complications (installing all Quakes, needing the right maps, config, etc.) but I think the skills from one Quake game can be more or less transferred to another.

There won't be any complications at the event. Just need the 4 quakes and one map each on them. Then it's shared on like 100+ tournament computers.

Was thinking about this just yesterday when watching a short movie on youtube with highlights from a lot different games a guy played online at the same day. Love the idea, just hope there will be some live streaming from the event, must be a pain in the ass to follow via qizmo/gtv (whatever they call it for quakeworld), gtv (for q2 and q3) and q4tv :>

They just announced there will be a brightskin pak used for Q2. Also 1st prize is $20,000.

The brightskins pak is only slightly enhanced, but at least something is used rather than nothing at all.

Yes, and based on the rules I could get lucky and win it. I could also possibly not even reach the top 8.

Basically I'll win all my q2/q4 games, and depending if my opponent is VERY good at qw/q3, I'll likely lose those games.

The rules go: each player picks their game, the opponent picks the map for their game. the third map/game is random, so if it falls on a game i'm better than my opponent at, I win and move on. There's the possibility it works in the opponent's favor, however. Also, it's single elimination once there's 32 players left, so basically anything can happen.

I think purri is going too. There might also be some excellent Q1 or Q3 players there that I don't know of. Where's the link to the brightskins?
