Yes he did infact go beyond any reason still established in the mind, to resort to that is a quick decision, and usually forced on yourself, by yourself.

partly because he chose the wrong route so many times, because he isn't intellegent, and he's weak. i'm sick of this disease stuff, thinking on impulse, and thinking things through, and these functions not working properly, because of genetics and so on.  never once do you hear weakness, and intellegence is involved.  he chose himself - everytime - at the sake of others

Reaper, I know where you are coming from when you attack wolf, but you must understand that there are countries that do not have such problems. It is only in ours, of first world countries, were these problems grow like this. And I understand that some people blame the person without ever realizing that the system failed the person way before they ever failed the system. What Railwolf said is very compassionate and should be appalled: do not condemn the poor, do not condemn those who only wish for a simple form of happiness in a world that will not allow it. --a world where happiness is a monetary thing. Drugs, you say, have nothing to do with social standing... people are only looking for the satisfaction that once so available, but now a thing that is bought and sold.

well reaper even I think you are out of line on this one.  I don't normally get into arguments like this nor do I hardly ever post on forums.  I happen to know Mike (Deftone) for quite some time now, much longer than Gator did if I am not mistaken.  I use to be able to walk to his house.

I first met Mike when I was in the clan BrandX way back in the day.  We mostly played Weapons of Destruction.  Him and I tried to go to the local lan parties here together.  He was a decent guy from first impression.  There was a time with him I began to realize something was up, whether it be laziness to work, or drugs I dunno.  He would sit in his house and play quake2 from sun up to sun down pretty much for weeks on end.

Mike if anyone knows made a movie of jumps in q2dm1.  I am not sure if it was one of the first but it was unique because all the jumps he did he did backwards.  The song that he used for the movie was called firestarter.  It was this time that Mike became excellent at playing q2, but then again he never went to work and lost alot of jobs because of that.  I know cuz he use to walk to my house alot and tell me.

To make a long story short and not really get off the subject like I was doing, Mike was a great guy.  Unfortunately, the worst got the best of him and lead him down the wrong path.  When I noticed everything that was going on I was willing to be there to help him.  Mainly because he had a 10 or 11 year old son.  Mike and his son was living with his Mom.  I tried to get Mike to focus on other things.  He was interested in Networking & Computers so I gave him most of my books from college so that he could read and get his A+ Certification for starters.  Of Course that never panned out.

I tried several attempts and I know gator has to, to physically take him to rehab to get help.  I felt horrible for his son cuz his son had a good head on his shoulders so naturally being the type of person I was I tried helping more than once, and have learned he just made his decision to walk to wrong path no matter how many attempts were made to "save" him.

Although, on a personal level I am pissed and have said things I should have never said about him I know deep down what type of person he is or was prior to the drugs.  He has been in jail on more than one occassion and I don't think this time will be any different except for the fact he will be in much longer.

Sorry for the rambling I suck at such long stories but thought it needed to be said.  Reaper is wrong to show his point of view.  Everyone knows that drugs makes you do things that you really dont want to do but in order to feed the habit you go to great lengths to get that fix.  You are entitled to your opinion of course but to attack railwolf the way you did was wrong.  It sounds as if railwolf was talking from experience.  Maybe not the drug part but the jail part.  All I can say if anyone that reads this is into cocaine, herion, or anything that strong get help.  If you have close friends true friends I can garuantee they will be there for you.  I was even if I got fooked at least I can say I tried.

Thanks for the post rich, that was good to read.

The intention of my post was never, "hey look at this asshole!".  It was placed here as a "Look what could happen to YOU!"

Mike's sad story is a perfect example of what could happen to any of us who conciously make the wrong choice.  Especially repeatedly.  Now, mike made this choice so many times, i wonder how concious it was for him anymore.

Anyways, here is some of his life:  His parents divorced when he was younger.  His dad had alot of money, and mike ended up with alot.  He lived larger then life for quite a few years with fast cars, jetskis, motorcycles, etc.  He had a son, who the mother then left with him and took off on her own into the military.  As the money ran out, he never was able to get on with life and start to be responsible for himself or his son.  He ended up living with his mother, not being able to keep a job, or be a father.  i believe he was emotionally incapable of being a father.  It was a very odd thing to see him with his son.  There was a vibe there that said something wasnt right.  His mom was his son's mother basically, and mike seemed to look after him like a big brother.  You could tell something was missing.

i tried to "save" mike for about a year or more.  i'd call him on the phone daily for about six months trying to "pep talk" him.  Trying to give him strength to keep a good head, and stay clean.  i think now, he lied to me everyday that i ever knew him.  And that seems to be what is painful for anyone who ever met him.  He is the most likeable, fun guy.  Yet betrayal of trust was his way of living.  i had worked with his father-in-law for some time.  Between the two of us, we basically baby sat all of mike's hours that he wasn't working.  When we realized he was doing drugs the entire time he was working, his father-in-law hatched a plan to have him arrested on the way to work.  At first i thought that was a bit extreme, and was worried once he was in the system, he would never return.  i was obviously wrong.  It would have been the perfect timing.   i first realized mike was homeless about one or two months ago.  i saw him walking up a highway one day, and it was obvious what his situation was.  i didnt even stop, because by then, i knew he was beyond my help.  i seem to deal with this alot.  Waiting for people to hit rock bottom.  That point where reality smashes you so hard it awakens you to your mistakes.  It is amazing how tough things can get where people still dont get it.  You just dont see this in the animal kingdom except for in us humans.

Anyways, Mike is now going to be in the system for a long, long time.  i expect him to be a repeat offender/lifer type now.  He never did learn to be responsible for his own actions, and now he will learn how the state can feed him and cover his head, so i expect him to spend the majority of the rest of his life behind bars.

in my limitted experience with the doper crowd, I noticed that there were quite a few guys who just never grew up.
I don't profess to be more mature than anyone, but it's unmistakeable when you meet a guy who just can't seem to get past 12 years old in his head..

I worked with a guy for a while when I was an A/C installer, who was like that.
He was really the nicest dude I'd ever met, and he wanted nothing more than to just be happy for a bit each day, but he was so hooked on heroin that he couldn't make getting his ass off the street and out of a motel a real priority in his life.
He ended up getting caught ripping shit off from customers to pay for his tar habit, and we had to fire him.
It's like he never even realized that he was throwing himself under the bus, even when people told him straight to his face.
Nothing would stick, except for his need for heroin.

I can't bring myself to blame him for being in that position, cause I've been there and I know how easy it is to get hooked on real dope. But I still feel pretty shitty that I couldn't convince him to straighten out a bit for his own good.

I can't condemn anyone just for using drugs.
I know that some people can hack it, and be totally normal and have a successful life.
Others, let the drug take over cause they weren't strong enough or weren't mature enough or their needs in other areas weren't getting met.
These ones need our pity and our help, not our condemnation.

If this thread opens one person's eyes, it's been worth it.

Very sad story.  I always enjoyed playing against Deftone, nice guy and very tough competitor.

firstly, i dunno why this post is at 'general ownage' but regardless. i have some two cents worth of my own.

 :afro:

firstly, i know deftone can't bring himself to be a father because he never knew how to be one because his dad was never a real dad. that vacuum left by an important role model is there. hence he does not have an idea, of how a dad is, and how to be one. hence the buddy buddy approach with his own son.

growing up in a single parent, broken family scenario is no joke. i know many people who grew up in that kind of environment and they often have twisted conceptions on family values and morals. you can't really blame them for being like that. life 'programmed' them to be that way.

and deep inside deftone, whatever his reasons was, may have resulted in delving with drugs because he's actually, broken. in mind, body and spirit, due to his growing up and many other factors unknown. and quake2 serves as nothing more but a temporary distraction from all that. just like the drugs, though it has major consequential effects as proven medically on the mind. spiritually it deteriorates u too.

more than shoving and rejecting, 'outcasts', as society would deem them as such, you should be more compassionate and read between the lines and analyse situations from a more first person perspective in relation to being in their shoes. live it, know it. period. modernisation and globalisation has adverse effects on society. some people just can't keep up. some can. but those who can't, they fall into depression, and end up in a wrong crowd, wrong hobby, wrong places and situations at points of their lives. can u just blame them? ever wondered why america, england and any first world country has a lot of homeless, depressed people? go figure. even in third world things like these are prevalent. a growing country building skyscrapers have to vacate and move people out of their homes just to 'develop' infrastructure and economy. how do u think u like being driven out of your own home? and forced to wear a tie and shirt from farmer garbs?

there are a lot of forces at play in this modern world. and if u see someone falling behind. stop. give out your hand. move together. leave no man behind. we should all progress in a universal way.

I don't worship the devil. Jesus is Lord, friend. He died for your sins. He will forgive you if you just ask.
