Next Tourney (4v4, 1v1, ..)

This tourney is being run great.  Assuming we keep the momentum with a new tourney next month, can we help matchup the players better?

Double elimintation will help.

Seeding will also help.  Perhaps

• Seed based upon skill brackets: novice, sport, pro
• Seed based upon tourney 1 results
• Seed based upon people's voted position (where big egos mean harder compeition)
• Seed based upon tastyspleen server logs
• Seed randomly

This goes for 1v1 or tdm.  Especially tdm where a pop-up team vs a real tdm team will be an enormously boring blowout (ie 100 to -2).  A waste of 8 players' time.  Plus the attitudes can be a problem.

console, i was wondering if you had any problem with starting the 2v2 tournament already, i dont see why we cant run two tourneys at the same time, we have two servers, and besides it would take a few weeks just arranging teams and sign ups, can we start working on this? i can help with the bureacratic bs (posting threads, match, tourney info, all that hoo haw, especially since you know i like to write)

also i was wondering if you would mind letting us run our own tourneys, on the tasty server, say someone gets a random idea for a tourney (say an all cg tourney) couldnt they just set off on their own and get started running it? we could have like a calender for tourneys

1v1 double elim next time would be nice, with a few new maps of course, I think this tourney really couldve used a map like chastity belt duel or match1

Well, aim for the sky and hit the roof or whatever, it's worth a shot. 4v4 is too much to handle at once, and would be hard getting enough teams to sign up. And even if they would, i doubt there is much reason as the teamplay in most cases would be very chaotic and random. In that case my idea about a FFA tourney would be better.

However 2v2 is really a nice way of playing, that way you learn how team up 2v1 in order to kill an opponent. It's a good introduction to the world of teamplay. My way into the realm of tdm was actually through 1v1, then I was forced to play 2v2 but I never enjoyed it nearly as much as 1v1, untill I started to understand what it was all about. Then gradually I got better, learning to hold position and drop weapons and use teambinds properly. I'm a lot better 1v1 than in teams still, but at least I find it fun playing teams. And in 2v2 you get to use the things you learn in 1v1's. Easier to focus on 2 opponents than 4, and that way you can work on locking down maps.

Anyway, I'm all for a 2v2 tournament. It would be nice.

But 1v1 double elim is also nice, maybe with some new maps to even out the playingfield. But not too many though, people can only learn so many maps at the time and watching duels where neither of the player know the map is not really that intresting from a spectators point of view. I'm just rambling anyway

I was thinking about posting a poll on 'Next Tourney' for a week. And open Signups for the two following weeks (Which would be the Semis & Final week in this 1st Edition). So once this tourney is over - the other would start.

Some people will surely be added to the 'Executive committee' as some people already left the scene (or will do).

Woohoo, FFA tourney, I'm there! =)  Seriously, I love FFA =P  Not sure how that'd work though.  Actually I woulda done the 1v1 tourney too, but I'm a perpetual procrastinator, so I waited too long, and the match-ups were assigned before I realized things were getting to that point.

reasons for barring me from it will be silly:

"no shit talkers on the commitee" - what does that have to do with running an effective tournament? my shit talking has no effect on tourney standings, when has my shit talking chacal had an effect on laurelin letting him win? no decision will ever be overturned for it, my shit talking is excess and has no real consequence, console knows how passionate and dedicated i was in this first tournament practically trying to go over laurelins head to hold a better tourney

what else is there? i am well liked by the community (yes believe it or not) and i am not a dumb ass, i will make decisions based on the good of the tournament, and not just what the rules say word for word which may be inadequate for every situation, vote banes for tourney council 05! abortions for some and miniature patriotic flags for others!

If we were to do a 4v4.. I suggest we did sort of a random team draw..

so there won't be powerhouse teams vs newb teams..

then we'd make lil clan names for the tourney and the random team where's that tag in the tourney..

it'd be mixed up and such.. could prove to be fun..
