Infact I don't play TDM at all. I rarely FFA. I mostly play ra2 but I will play on the sheridan server here and there. Even played in the FFA Heat... didn't do so bad for a guy that NEVER plays those maps. Perhaps I should tone my noob skills in that area.

I have played sheridan a max of two times, so I have no input here, but....

I remember joining the server, having no idea where all the good stuff is located, would spawn and be picked off with a rail shot by someone knowing where I would tele, based upon my spawn....

Then I would try to get sneaky and find random stuff, hit the person with like 20 rail shots and a bfg blow, but still the person wouldn't die...

I wondered who that was, now I know...die jager, goddammit die!!

The only reason I ever originally connected to Sheridan is because it looked like a stand-alone City1 map. Sounds OK to me. Then it became clear, after connecting there a few times, that the whole point to this server was to go suck up the green armor immediately and every other armor you can find before you even shoot. If you don't, you can fire off 3 good rails and watch the guy skip away to get more cells. Boy this is fun. I can't stand matches that are heavily defensive. No action - no interest. Either that or play the same way for 20 minutes and somebody wins 4-2. Eventually nobody showed up - not because they were being beat, but they didn't like the format.

Historically speaking, sheridan dates back to 1998 or 1999 or so. There were always a select group of folks who liked to play there.

Some people do like the format... but I don't recall it ever being really crowded, even back in its heyday.

Sheridan is awesome.

If someone has the PS, you have to wedge your way in to take them down. You need to rail them a half dozen times to get them on the defensive, or telefrag, or lava bump, or RL bounce them so they can't escape.

If a player is better, they can overtake the leader -- it isn't that one sided, just different.

This thread got me wanting to try again, so I played a few maps tonight. Had the same problem of hitting the dude with like 10 rails and still no death - but I can see how some like it. Began learning the map and where the goodies are....

it's better than mindless FFA where there's no strategy, and just finding the closest gun and shooting and hope you survive the spam for more than a few seconds. It's Sunday night, anybody comming?
