sheridan changes

Ok so the sheridan mod is getting a bit out of control. All of a sudden we have new item placements and god knows what else other players are not being told about. I'm sure there are secrets only a select few know about...

Anyhow... can we put the server back to a default like sheridan please?

spinkick. ok this was neat at first but just like the old sheridan it's old. it was removed after a awhile in the old sheridan and not only because of the exploit that came with it but the fact it's not normal. remove this as well.

Appears to me that changes were made just so people would have a chance to kill me... I don't believe this is very fair. If you want to kill me then get better then me. Want to kill me? Get your friends to join and all team up on me. Want to kill me? Use the BFG a ton... Want to kill me? Telefrag me... I mean wtf, why do you have to change the map around? Adding new items and things like spinkick. Please put sheridan back to a stock city1 map and features / settings I listed above, remove the crazy crap.

NOTE: This is all news to me.  I haven't changed any items on the map.  I would have to suppose it's Wheet's latest mod code?

Yeah it is his changes. I don't agree with them. They are not part of the original sheridan.

Wheet has been responsive at making changes as requested.  It would be best if he agreed with the changes.  If he doesn't then let's get a thread going to decide how to reconcile.  I'll forward this thread to him.

My personal opinion are that the changes are fine, but make the game more "arcade" and less of a serious competition.  It is fun to spinkick someone then pinyatta them mid-air.  Also, I prefer playing with the powerups -- which you may not like.  So, I'm not sure everyone would agree.  The original Sheridan did, at times, have powerups.

Wheet enjoys the changes. From what he's told me so do others and I have been the only one so far against them. Unfortunately the others that enjoy the changes have not had the chance to play with them against me. They like to believe that these changes will even out play when versus me but I do not see that happening. Last night I fooled around a little bit in the server and with 4+ players I did not go under 160 armor the entire time due to the 2nd red armor that replaced the invulnerability.

I prefer playing with the powerups -- which you may not like.

I also enjoy playing with the powerups. However others don't enjoy playing with them on when vs me... I will continue to time the quad and get it consistently to reduce the risk of others using it against me. Even for me that can get pretty boring.

I would enjoy playing against you once again defiant. It's been a long time since we've hit up sheridan vs each other.

I didn't make any changes to the mod itself. I turned on powerups then re-mapped the invulnerability and quad damage power up to a red armor and power shield. This gives other players an increasing chance to attain the power shield without having to enter the court yard.

I can put up with a lot of frustration while playing the game, I rarely kill jager, it's just death after death. When I actually do kill him it's from using some gorilla tactic, I do still enjoy trying though. He was getting me to the point where I couldn't even get a shield to put up a good fight. I would like to think of myself as one of the best players of the server but if I am even beginning to become frustrated I cannot imagine how others feel. I don't even go for other weapons or armor first, if I am going to die before I am able to get power shield then it was just a waste of time to pickup anything else.

So I decided to try out an extra power shield and extra body armor to see what other players think of it. Which are just some simple cvar changes that can be easily switched back. So far the people I have talked to really enjoy the addition, it gives them a greater chance of getting power shield which is what the entire map revolves around. There is less running away from fights as other players become more confident that they will be able to get back into the game without a struggle.

Many people even have problems killing me, as they are dead before they can even get stocked up enough to fight, this change only gives other players (especially new ones) a fighting chance against people better than them. I have also only had it changed for 2 days.

As to the other changes, the BFG was toned down a bit to account for old sheridan constantly altering its availability.

I would also like to note that out of all the regular players of Sheridan, jager is the only one that has ever complained about anything that has been changed or added. Many people seem to think spinkick is pretty funny and thought it was even more fun when it kicked the weapon out of your enemy's hands. I go back and read the logs every so often to see what others think about changes, many people still seem to have fun playing with spinkick. My main use for it is for escaping, I can kick people back, out of my way or into the lava.

This is because I want sheridan to be the same as it was before tastyspleen put up the server. You did a great job putting the mod together till you started getting a little crazy. Removing the new armor placements, fix bfg and take out spinkick. At that point sheridan will be the way it should be.

Honestly at this point if I were going to change it back I would have after we had the conversation before you took it to the forum. Now we will let the reason you took it to the forum play out and influence the decision.

I took it to the forum to mostly get opinions on what others thought. I didn't take it here to bash you or take it to a personal level. Defiant shared his opinion and I hope others that play sheridan would as well.

You can throw around the fact you can change the server however you like but I can choose not to play there. Unfortunately that's not a fun decision but since you decided to wreck the server I get no other choices. Sadly this may of been your plan all along...
