Level editing eats ridiculous amounts of time.  Be prepared to spend entire weekends indoors in your underwear if you want to produce anything halfway decent.

I've found everything I ever put together in my editor, was at the very least, a learning experience.
I've got a couple maps on the back burner right now because of various problems with their layout that I never would have known existed until I tried my best to make something work and failed.
It's frustrating sometimes but I enjoy the challenge and I look forward to the day that my maps will be up to my standards of a "decent" map.

you should check out Rust: Game Design for more info on quake 2 mapping, they have a section entirely devoted to it including a forum. http://www.gamedesign.net/node/11

also, the Quake 2 Cafe is a forum based around mapping for q2. http://leray.proboards34.com/index.cgi

you should be able to get quality answers to some of your questions there if you phrase them coherently and you spend some time in the tutorials at Rust learning the correct terminology.

just asking if anyone knows how to edit maps very good.  if it wouldn't take very long to edit map rtctf1v2.bsp. need the pipes at the top of the red and blue inner hallways removed , lower the ceiling a bit in the red and blue water rooms with the pillars, close and level the fan crevice in the middle water rooms. any suitable volunteer willing to take up this small task PM me. would be appreciated.
