it's a different design of course though, rail is easy to get - it's next to mega and a ya

there's three ways in to mega, and one is to drop down by the rl close to mega
you can get really really fast on that map

Reaper I've played that map a ton on mutant.  Its a little too blue for my taste.  Plus it's not nearly open enough.  Its a fairly fun ffa map though =)

The edge is ok but its not perfect. FFA rail camp anyone?

And I also dislike it for 1v1 for the fact that you can lose the game based on your opponent controlling one area of the map. Other than that, its definetly a great map to move around and jump in.

When I was first exposed to the Edge map way back I thought it was a flawed map in many ways. In fact I immediately dis-assembled it and started to modify it in my map-making software. Here's the things that bugged me.

1) Too much armor in the mega-health room. Too many people tended to hang in there constantly replenishing themselves and would either pick off re-spawns from there or resist an attack to dislodge them by having more armor. I wanted a red armor under the stairs where the small shotgun is (bottom arena area) to balance things if you spawned below.

2) Railgun location thru the water tunnel. Only one way in - one way out. Great camping spot in FFA. In 1 vs 1 it makes you a sitting duck trying to get out of the water. Witness the Thresh vs Bilox match. For a "fast" map it takes way too long to get this weapon. Needs an alternate exit.

3) The tunnel connecting the arena to the back pool section. Another trap in 1 vs 1. Your defence is a relatively weak machine gun. An elevator or teleport out of there to a neutral point could be interesting.

The rest of the map is good with a nice feel and with many nice sniping spots. Sound clues are set in good locations to track your opponent.

The railgun is so vital to q2dm1 that it is put in a very vulnerable location by design, if it was easy to get to it would destroy the balance of the map. See also Pyr3x's q2dm1 strategy: Spawn, go to rail, die, repeat. It isnt a great camping spot in FFA's, thats just lol, go camp the railgun room and see how fast i kill you lol.

pyrex is definitely better than people give him credit for.. he's not the best, and he's big on rail but when people talk like he's a n00b i'm like

I'll look Gator but this was like 1999. Also I remember that my lighting looked like shit because I couldn't get the warm tones of the original. But it did have a neat coliseum type sky since that's essentially what the arena is on that map.
