Basically what this boils down to is the fact that you are not a true racing fan. If you we're it would'nt matter what kind of racing it, as long as it's racing. Weather it be NASCAR, F1, Modified, Boats, or soapboxes. Racing is racing. I have my preference obvoiusly and so do you. I think Indy and F1 are just souped up Go-Carts, but hey, if there racing, i'll watch and enjoy it. I'm a true racing fan, you are not.

Kind of big news in racing... when you hear that a driver gets killed during a race, you kinda expect the deceased driver to have died as a "direct" result of a crash and not as an "indirect" result of a crash after they get out of their car.

Tony Stewart hits and kills another driver standing in the middle of the race track:

Lots of people are saying "he did it on purpose" or "No, he didn't do it on purpose". I don't know, personally. I know Stewart's always been a reputable no-shit-taker kinda guy, but I can't believe he'd run over someone on purpose. Seems more likely that this young 20 yr old kid just made a SERIOUSLY stupid decision to try to get revenge for some perceived personal insult which would have the added benefit of getting covered as racing news in larger forums (since Tony Stewart is a team owner and Sprint Cup driver = $$$), which would translate to good exposure for himself by making news... well, now he's BIG news cuz he's fucking dead.

I hate to blame the victim, but it's obviously his fault. I know you have to bend the rules of safety sometimes, but he was being a complete moron. Not to mention his car could probably still move.

it was dark, the guy was wearing all black, but the video still looks to me like the driver hit the guy on purpose or try to go past him. i am sure he was looking in that direction to begin with, since he was the cause of the accident the prior lap... cops needs to really look at this one

Worst-case scenario is that tony stewart may have been able to try harder to avoid him, but it ain't Tony's fault that the guy was banking on him to maneuver around him in time. You don't obstruct a vehicle's path on a race track, not to mention this is the professional level. They call some cases of obstructing a speedy vehicle's path suicide

Lotta people all around the internet and the country saying shit on both sides of it.

On one hand, like I said, I can't believe someone would square-up to hit a driver on purpose.

On the other hand... this is Tony Stewart we're talking about. He's kinda famous for being hotheaded and getting involved in arguments and tensions between other drivers and other teams. And he's also arguably one of the best guys in the ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD behind the wheel of anything. Nascar drivers ain't no joke. They can take a 3000 lb. 900hp racecar with no treads on the tires and horrible handling and thread a fucking needle between two nylon road cones barely wider than the car in the middle of a banked turn at 170 mph. Guys like him typically don't "lose control" of a car enough to where he couldn't help hitting something under a caution. It just all equals up to things that make ya go "hmmmmm".

But unless there's other footage out there showing what his driving line was coming down the stretch prior to that turn, then it'll be hard to prove guilt based on this one video alone.

But if something happens and it comes out that they have proof that he DID hit him intentionally, I wonder where that leaves him in regards to Nascar competition. I suspect they'd ban him from the sport. Possibly strip him of previous Sprint Cup titles too. Who knows.

Apparently Stewart's car hit him with the back right tire. This would go along with him swerving away at the last second, and also the acceleration to help facilitate the turn. Idk.

Well... that's not exactly true. First of all, when an incident like that initial slide into the retaining wall happens, the yellow flag comes out, and they all assume the same speed of the pace car. Acceleration shouldn't be happening under yellow. The reason dirt track cars slide through the turns is due to the speed they accumulate on the straights. If they're driving at pace speed, like they're SUPPOSED to do under yellow, there's no way the rear's gonna have a chance to break loose. These cars, even if they DO keep the gas to the floor all the way down the straight, if they let off the throttle completely when entering a turn, within completing 1/4th of the turn (or maybe less), the rear will not have enough force to break solid traction from the track. There's a helluva lot more drag at play in the corners at dirt tracks than on paved tracks, especially with the tires that sprint cars use.

This is why I'm thinking... maybe hitting him was intentional. Maybe he didn't intend on killing him or hurting him, maybe he just thought he'd graze him or scare the shit out of him and something worse than he imagined actually happened as a result. And maybe it's why the investigators are using the particular language they're using and not just saying, "It was an unfortunate accident, couldn't be avoided, period." But what they're saying is, "No charges are pending, but the investigation is ongoing." So obviously they have their doubts.

ps. The local sheriffs department is asking for anyone with amateur footage of the incident to send it in to them. So... tells me they still have suspicions that they aren't willing to publicly admit just yet until they have more evidence to strengthen their position. And with everyone's fucking sick-assed addiction to filming every damn thing with their phones every waking moment of the day, I'd say more video is gonna surface eventually.

The jury is definitely still out on this one. It looked like Stewart swerved and accelerated at the last second. While unlikely, there is a higher possibility of the rear end sliding out on a dirt track, especially if you have to turn quickly to avoid someone. If someone comes through with the proper angle video, it will be easy to determine what happened, I hope that happens.
