NASCAR...
« on: October 09, 2006, 07:15:58 AM »
Well if I recall a few people here are interested in NASCAR. I'm sure a majority of you are not and believe it's just a bunch of cars going around in a 'circle'. For those of us with the intellect to understand what NASCAR is all about I wanted to get some feedback/share some thoughts on last Sunday's race at Talladega SUPERSPEEDWAY.

All I can say is, holy shit. That was a spectacular race. Utterly amazing display of raw talent by all drivers. The new pavement at Talladega made for a very exciting Sunday. The competition was at it's best. This by far was my favorite race of the year, even more so then the one I went to in NH this past July.

Jeff Gordon. What a baby? Why is he such a whiner (oh right he's really a woman)! He is so upset over Dale Jr.'s driving style on superspeedways. Junior was doing nothing but HELPING Gordon get to the front and lead by drafting Gordon like he was it was. Yet Gordon never returns the favor and has the nerve to piss and moan about it at the end of the race. Typical woman. Everyone there knows Jr. is by far the best drafter running currently. Nobody does it better.

"There's so much grip my mom could drive these cars," he said. "There wasn't no way I was going to spin nobody out. I guess it made Jeff Gordon a little nervous." (eg. His mom would of been alot less of a woman about getting drafted by Jr.) - Dale Jr.

Brian Vickers... heh. I'm not sure if he spun Jimmie Johnson into Dale Jr. in purpose to win the race. I believe what others were saying. The guy is a 'noob'. He got over excited and pushed Johnson to hard, which then spun him out into Jr. He just didn't have the talent to make a flawless pass. It's unfortunate for Jr. and Johnson but I guess that's superspeedway racing.

NASCAR restricting speeds on Taladega. WTF? I don't understand... so you don't want the cars to go at an average speed over 200 mph because why? It's dangerous? It looked pretty safe out there Sunday. The new pavement makes the grip incredible at 200 mph.

"You build a race track that you can hold it wide open around, why do you want to slow 'em down?" Earnhardt said. "You scared of hurting somebody? Hell, I crashed with the restrictor plate on pretty bad last time here. And if they're worried about the people, move the damn people back. Build bigger grandstands or walls and move the people back." - Earnhardt Sr.

Yes, please call me redneck white trash for posting this.  :D I love seeing ignorance at it's best.

Yea I seen that crap.
Jeff has always wined, always will. Junior had the big T owned all day, but still would'nt have won. Jimmy and Brian was gona take it no matter what, there just wasn't anyone there to help junior at the end and mix it up a bit.
Brian would'nt spin his own teammate for a win. He's just just a noob that got to jumpy. I don't care that he spun Jimmy, just wished he did'nt take out junior with him.

But all in all, it wasby far the best Talla race i've seen in ages.

Yeah they would of passed Junior cleanly for the lead. However Vickers could of then tried to pass Johnson for the lead then things would of got interesting. A threeway race for the checkers perhaps? That would of made for a very exciting finish to a great day.

Loved every bit of that 1...

only way that race was gonna finish... ehehe :oksign:

P.S

If you look very closely at replays you can see where JR tried a classic fake move on Johnson
by dipping down for a block on the slingshot ....LOL ............ "Shake and Bake" As Ricky Bobby would say.....

Ah yes the roundy roundy boys - NASCAR. Trailer trash racing at its finest. All the technical sophistication of my toilet. "She seems real loose goin into 2, Bubba." In terms of crudeness and format, IRL racing isn't too far behind. Formula One is the most difficult, most sophisticated, most progressive racing there is on the planet. And they don't just go around in circles - there are actual corners (high and low speed), elevation changes, impossible braking

The Winston boys are just too afraid to do that. Also there aren't full course yellows every 2 minutes which completely undoes whatever progress the drivers just made.

But they sure do pile up real good. Nascar is just a large marketing enterprise masquerading as racing.

Ask Jeff Gordon what he thought of a Formula One car when he tested one last year.

Wow, you know NOTHING about stock car racing. You don't even know much F1 racing.  :lolsign:

This is why F1 racers want to get into NASCAR?...

Oh and if your point about Jeff Gordon is that he liked the F1 cars, by all means keep him!

I agree with DeathStalker.

I know this is a car racing topic, but ...
Back in the early 70's, some friends and myself thought of the motorcycle flat trackers as racers that couldn't hack motocross. This was, untill a kid came to our jr high school. His name Terry Poovey. Before long, us motoX'ers were heading to Ross Downs every friday night (or was it saturday nights) to watch Terry win his races by half track lengths, that is if he didn't crash. Terry went on to become a world class flat tracker. Although I still prefer motocross type racing over flat track, each has its own skill levels.

I also started with AMA Moto-X and went to flat track racing. Both are racing just different types, different skills, different conditions, different nerves etc.

Flat track was my favorite (I love speed and going sideways at 100+ rubbing elbows with the racer next to ya is nothing but fun). I raced in the Kenny Roberts era and attended a school of his on the San Jose Mile and got an education beyond belief, Kenny made all of us make believe bad asses look like titty babies.

MotoX was fun and a real technical challenge, but doent have the raw speed, but on MotoX courses speed plays a very small part to being good.

I do agree with the comment about NASCAR being a Media Machine, but so is SuperCross and several others and it is what earns racers big purses, advances the sport etc but it also can burn it out quickly also.

Personally I love it when Jeff smacks the good ole boys, just proves you can have a full set of teeth and still win races!!!

As for Dale Jr. something happened to him at riverside (or wherever that was) fire he went through, he hasnt been the same since. I had high hopes for Jr, but he isnt and never will be #3.

Hmm have you been paying attention to this season? Last season what rather pathetic I admit. Junior made the chase this season and has been doing very well over all. He is a bit behind the points leader as of now but with 5 races to catch up, there is still light.  Last years disapointment was mostly due to a horrible DEI engine program. They've turned things around and not only has his car and driving style impoved but his attitude has as well. He's matured alot since last season. How he handled wrecking last Sunday proved it. Keep watchin. ;)

I think what you guys know about motor racing wouldn't fit on a matchbook. I got my road racing licence back in the mid-80's and spent 10 years on the track. No dumbass ovals - just real racetracks. Since it was very expensive eventually I had to give it up. So I've been there. The "sophistication" of setting up a stock car with with weird toe-in and camber just to turn left is rather stupid to begin with. I've watched Formula One for over 30 years. I have a fair bit of knowledge on racing technology as well as real racing experience. And NASCAR is a joke. The only reason you just got JPM (who?) is that he ran out of a job at McClaren and isn't interested in IRL. He'll be gone in 2 years. Can you name anyone else who's come from F1 to NASCAR?
Formula One has events in Europe, Asia, Japan, the Middle East, South America etc. Outside of America who cares about NASCAR? There is a reason why Michael Schumacher is the highest paid athlete in the world (around $60 million per year) and is the best driver.
And by the way Jeff Gordon loved his test drive in an F1 car and was embarassed to talk about his own car with JPM in that Speed Channel episode. Jeff's a good driver but could never cut it in Formula One.

Real race tracks, no ovals, Hmm Ovels are real race tracks. But I think I know what you are refering to, the tracks with left and right turns and different elevations such as SONOMA, WATKINS GLEN, and the one in Mexico, you know, the ones that NASCAR races at. Hmm, obviously you don't know anything about NASCAR.
Also, I guess F1 has to race all around the world, seeing how they only have a few races a year, what is it, one race per year, per country because no one would watch a second or third F1 race. Oh and as far as F1 people coming to NASAR, they can't because they can't hang in NASCAR.
Indy on the other hand has had pleanty move to NASCAR, and the only one that them that has done worth a durn is Tony Stewert, but that's because he can drive anything with wheels.
NASCAR is the most popular spectator sport in America. Ask what's his face how there finances would be at Indy if it was'nt for the Brickyard 400.

Ya ya...Watkins Glen. They throw in a few token road courses to pretend they're versatile drivers. Those guys are clearly out of their element on those type of tracks. They all go to Bondurant or Skip Barber to re-learn how to turn right at speed before the event. F1 is international because it is obviously popular worldwide. 'Can't hang in NASCAR?' Heh....whatever that means. NASCAR is the most popular because Tony George single-handly destroyed CART-Indy racing. His IRL series has empty stadiums and no TV viewers. His own personal money and his ego keep it going. So there is no other national racing series.
If you want to acquire an informed opinion on racing - go get your licence and helmet, strap on your 6 point belts and try turn 2 at Mosport (double apex) flat out. Better yet race in the rain.
