Another 1x1, perhaps there is a way to separate the novice, sport, and pro players.

2x2 would be fun and more likley easy to schedule.

4x4 would be great, but I don't know how well we could schedule the matches and find enough people for more than 4 teams.

You might want to suggest that to #clutch-gaming (talking here about 'one-day' tourneys).
Otherwise you had already suggested a 1on1 All-Edge so it's alright!

I would go for RA2 1v1 myself. Loads of great maps. It is also simpler for those who haven't really played 1v1 before since there is no item control issue.

Of course you'd have to ban those danged LPBs from using the chain gun ... ;)

Sorry for mentioning the obvious, but what about a FFA tourney? Set up heats with lets say 4-8 players in each, and top 2-3 in each heat moves on or something. Or higher number of players. Be sure to pick good map(s) to play on though, to avoid overly campy play or too little action. Arrange it like a tourney with heats and semi finals and a big finale. Top fragger in the final can call himself the best FFA'er on tastyspleen servers.

Seeing the nightly crowds that have been gathering just to catch 1-2 matches makes me think there will be no problem in scheduling up to 6 or 8 players for an "ffa" tourney.  I wonder if something like this has ever been done.  You figure there should be much less number of matches scheduled cause we're not just pairing off 2 players per match.  This style of play will better fit the Tasty Spleen "regulars" crowd methinks.

On another note... how about team-play (2v2, 3v3) with Weap Stay on?? I know... the tdm'ers are cringing to this thought.  But then again it may be a better 'fit' for the ffa crowd.  I personally think the experienced tdm'ers will still dominate cause they'll have easy access to weaps after spawning so the end results will be the same except  scores may be like 30-10 with weap stay teams, vs, 60-5 weapstay off  ::) ::) ::) ::)
I've tried this and it's insanely mad fun... lots of non stop action.  I think many of us non-tdm'ers  feel naked and lost when we spawn w/out a weap... so this might be a compromise and teams can be fun.

I like both ideas:

If you're going down the "team weapstay" road you might as well do RA2 pickups. Which, when played seriously, is the campiest experience known to man ;)

exactly, fuck tdm weapons stay on, either you play ra2, or you play regular tdm with weap stay off, what is this melding of forms, just have an ra2 tourney, and i think if the 2v2 or 3v3 with weap stay on idea does go through, we should do a standard tdm tourney first with weap stay off

ive never seen hardcore ra2 tourneys, that wouldl suck if it was campy like you say it is

Competitive team RA2 (in Europe at least) was very very campy. I'm struggling to find some demos to show it though :( I still think the 1v1 variant is totally superb though ...

The thing is, despite all the "weapstay is easier" opinions I actually think it's the other way round. Statistically speaking, the more chance your opponents have of possessing a gun the less chance you have of killing them :)

Something that was mentioned previously that I really am excited about is a skill-based 1x1 tournament.
Have, say, three different brackets for each skill group.
