I have kind of a theory and question, for those of you with more knowledge in this area ill humbly listen

But if the whole evolution thing is true, then we evolve by adapting to things that need adapting to right? Even if this means viruses/diseases....answer me this...do you believe because of our ways of life, our easy access to food, out doctor visits for our bodies, etc etc that our social activities has left no room for evolution????

although previously i said a clarification of the definition of "evolution" would be helpful, i really meant that for everyone reading this post as a whole. It seems to me that you are touching on an interesting subject. Evolutionary adaptations take many years to complete, and by this time life will be incredibly more convenient for citizens of well-developed countries.

On a side note, isnt there a statistic saying that the average human height has been increasing for some years? someone correct me if i'm wrong.. i'm guessing that midgets just dont get much pussy

We can evolve through natural selection, through breeding, or genetic manipulation.

I don't know how humans, if we still exist, would look 1,000-10,000-100,000 years into the future. If we ever take advantage of our abilities of manipulating ourselves genetically (genes making the entity immune from obesity, certain diseases, etc.), who knows what we will become.

It's hard to say what kind of progress would be made on a natural level since humans are the only species who clearly defy the phrase "Survival of the fittest" in reference to the individual. Our biological changes would be a result of breeding or genetic manipulation most likely since humans in industrialized and underdeveloped nations are no different biologically (broadly speaking). Survival of the fittest is a touchy subject for me. I understand it, however certain questions puzzle me the perhaps someone here has an answer to. What were neanderthals and especially homo-erectus lacking to become extinct?

maybe they just didn't breed at a fast enough rate to adapt quickly to changing environmental factors...

Maybe their genetic contributions just ended up as recessive traits in the overall human gene pool, and they never really became "extinct"..

Well the claim I've heard is that modern humans took form in Africa about 80,000-100,000 years ago. Some migrated to Europe where the Neanderthals existed and simply out-competed them.

The modern humans likely had better tools and more sophisticated hunting methods than the neanderthals. Neanderthals were also supposedly less agile than modern humans. Climate change (warmer) was something modern humans adapted to better than the Neanderthals as they were better suited for the cold. These and other factors lead to the modern humans being able to survive the test of time, and the neanderthals to become extinct.

Not understanding how a species can or does come extinct is not natural selection's problem. Look at the fossils.

you can reasonably fill in the gaps of evolution fairly easily, i'd say claiming there is no god isn't nearly as fulfilling. but hey, everyone has their opinions, that's fine with me : )

first you have a major problem claiming we know nothing supernatural sparked the creation of the universe, or any other "ridiculous" notion. most people are inclined to think life wouldn't form under ridiculous odds. i've never said "i think god exists because the world is big", and so on. yes, I do think god is involved in the creation of the universe (we'll see if this is like saying thor's hammer creates lighting). maybe you don't believe in god to begin with, so you wouldn't invoke god as an explanation. although my thinking certainly highlights major gaps in knowledge, and i think these gaps in knowledge would be very valuable to support the idea that matter/energy exist forever, and that god does not exist. the fact that we have scientific explanations for how and why things happen seems irrelevant to me, when considering the existence of god. even though i believe in god, should i think some human-like hand moves clouds around? i bet if the world wasn't so evil, people might find the idea of god a lot more reasonable. you can say god would have to be extremely complicated, so if you have a problem with chance, you certainly have a problem with god. what do we know about god? so what is the perfect world? the latter doesn't seem to be a trivial question.

i was always atheist, maybe up until i was 22 or so. then i started to think the world was to perfect for their not to be a god. oddly enough, this was when things were going bad, and it wasn't like i gained strength from god, that's just how i viewed reality. god being a byproduct of evolution seems like a ridiculous notion to me, along with the idea that my perceived perfections of the world would not require a god. it seems to me, nothing would exist without god. after i started this line of thinking, i thought there's a 51 percent chance god exists : ). i still feel the same.

that being said, i reject every modern religion, and if god isn't good (in my opinion) i have absolutely no respect for god, and he can fuck off until he burns me in eternal flames : P
