What you posted earlier is a kind of fallacy in argumentation called an amphiboly:

My arguments in this domain are generally predicated on: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Leaping from "the universe exists" to "god exists" is an extraordinary claim, for which, as yet, not a shred of evidence appears to have been presented.

The people at the insane asylum aren't using religion to guide them through life, they're insane.  God is a useful idea that people believe to be the truth, which I wouldn't expect anyone to see if they didn't believe.  The lord does work through mysterious ways.

Patients like Terri Schiavo who are in a persistent vegetative state were judged as being "more dead than dead" by study participants, especially those with strong religious beliefs, according to a study in the journal Cognition.

I don't see what that study points out other than the obvious.  The belief that someone braindead is worse of than dead follows the nature of most religions, you do the lords bidding now and you get rewarded in the afterlife.  It's only ironic depending on your perspective, and a quite natural perspective says you give life every possible chance, and you do the lords bidding.

The context of the article concerns when to pull the plug on a vegetative patient evaluated to be in a persistent condition judged to be equivalent with death.  (Or, "less than death", for afterlife-believers.)

(1) As a primate, it seems unlikely you possess any special means to know "the lords[sic] bidding"
(2) Are you sure "the lords[sic] bidding" involves keeping a braindead patient's organs alive on artifical life support? 
(2a) Dead brain, artifical heart, iron lung... at what point is it still "life" ?  (Every sperm cell is sacred?)
