Maybe it could be a more advanced creature, using those tools as an aid. I don't consider the vast things animals do evil, maybe fucked up, but people have seem to "take the cake" there. On another planet with a similar creature to IT could be evil, and not like what we see here. Without something concerened with good and evil, there is nothing stopping this evolution. What do we know about brains on other planets, and that there might be vast networks of individual creatures communicating as a species. Then there could be a competing species that is similar with their own interconnected systems of neural networks, and they go on to enter into the other species system. To complicated?
