After reading this thread I decided to try out uTorrent.

I've been a pretty loyal fan of Azureus (even donated $20 to them) but I think I might jsut switch.

uTorrent is pretty clean and takes barely any system resources.

I really dig that. My pc can't handle a Java proggy that uses 70% cpu.  :ohlord:

Hope things work out for you Adam

Well, this sounds stupid but how many seeders does the torrent you're trying to download have? Try downloading different torrents with lots of seeds and see what happens. If that doesn't work try turning off all firewalls.

Azerus fucking blows because it is programmed in Java. I've come to the conclusion that every program programmed in Java blows. They use massive resources and run slow. uTorrent is hands down the best Bit Torrent client.

you should make sure it's not the torrent your downloading, by knowing it's working ahead of time.
letting connections in from the outside, will increase the speed of the download, but it's not required, i'm not sure what p ort
you can call the isp find out what they are doing (if anything)
or you can use that one client, where they can't traffic shape it, because they don't know what it is.
I believe you can change what port it uses or something

that plan should figure it out for ya
i use it here and there, to get movies , cd's etc..
it is slow too : )
i wish they would make it so people couldn't cap their uploads, then it would be quick : (

Well, another problem is that a lot of ISPs have high download speeds but slow upload speeds. My top download speed is about 10X higher than my upload.

Does a DECADE count as necroposting? Probably. But I had a couple months left before this hit the decade mark, so it's fine.

utorent is teh shit  :righteous:

Utorrent is most certainly NOT "the shit". Dunno about downloading actual torrents from the site, maybe that used to be a thing, but these days I mainly use trusty ole PirateBay or KickAss. And honestly, KickAss seems to have more consistent uptime and more availability of "things" as well as a wider selection of sizes, formats, etc. But back to uTorrent...

Anybody else been having serious serious problems with the ads? I used it for YEARS, the same version, no ads at all. Then all of the sudden a week or so ago, it locks up upon starting it and the only option I had to fix it was to uninstall it and reinstall the current version... which is over-fucking-flowing with ads and bullshit. I managed to fuck around with the advanced settings and disable the ads, but then a day or two ago, it splashed this full page uTorrent ad all across the UI window giving me options to either to pay 5 bucks to upgrade to the "ad-free" version or pay 20 bucks for the "premium ad-free" version, NO WAY AT ALL to simply close the ad and go back to what I was doing.

So after that, I said, "Fuck you, uTorrent. Life is too short to fuck with torrent clients that wanna harass me." Uninstalled it completely in an angry bitter fashion, and then immediately downloaded qBitTorrent instead. Basically the same damn thing as uTorrent, looks almost identical, and NO ADS.

uTorrent can SUCK MY GOD DAMN DICK. Because if they can advertise shit to you, then obviously someone's peeking at what your downloading. If advertisers can do that legally, why couldn't the government do it without a warrant? Not that I'm doing anything wrong...
