are you running a third-party firewall of any sort?
you may need to change your settings so that it can get thru...

do you have it set so that no one can upload from you?
If you don't pass things up the pipe,
you wont get much down it with bittorrent and others...

hmm It's usually something annoyingly simple like
windows security center's BS firewall....

If creating a port for it didn't work, then it could be a setting in
the torrent util itself...
Did you snoop around the website for bitcomet?

I'm not too familiar with all of the different ones, but
have you tried any others to see if they work?
(bittorrent, azureus(not sure on the spelling here))

I use Azureus.  It can be very slow depending on the torrent.
I happen to know some ISP's block the default port that Azureus uses because they know that 95% of these type of downloads are illegal (obviously you are in the legal 5%).  I suggest changing the port, forwarding it and then testing the NAT status until it goes green.

You wouldn't wanna bring down the wrath of the copyright protection gods!
:ubershock:
They're a bunch of evil, blood-sucking bastards (lawyers) with way too much corporate financing.

If we let the software "industry" have it their way, you'd never even hear of a p2p network...
it removes the middle-man (the pay-for-free-files sites like fileplanet, and others) and negates
their new buy-online (and get screwed with no hard copy) techniques.
They see bittorrent (and friends) as their competition for people who want software but don't
care if they get the box, the manual, and a hard copy.

Unfortunately for them, no amount of easy-downloading is going
to make a difference to pirates if they are gonna have
to pay for it in one place, or get it for free in another.

Please keep in mind there are a lot of small, independent software authors out there who are trying to keep a roof over their heads and put food on the table for themselves and their families.

While I'd agree not all of our Intellectual Property laws are reasonable (personally, I hate software patents), I do think if I work hard to create some software, I should be able to charge money for it.

don't get me wrong here... I don't condone piracy...
It's just one of the most unstoppable forces of the computer-era...

I've noticed that at most e-places, they tend to shy away from even discussing
copyright protection policies and laws, and I've never understood why.
If it's such a big important issue (which it clearly is) you'd think that we would see/hear
more about it and be encouraged to discuss its good and bad points.

The way it gets hushed up and swept under the rug by a lot of communities and organizations is
kinda weird and creepy, and it leads me to wonder "why?"

Why is it that the only sides we usually hear in the Media, are the sides of the large businesses during
their infringement lawsuits, and foreign governments trying to stomp out capitalism in tech-businesses?

Everyone has to make a living, but it seems like all sides are fighting the middle on this issue,
and the programmers aren't the only ones getting shafted.
The consumers who can't burn a copy of their own CDs are taking a hit too.
The small companies are relegated to making value-software, and the big ones are sitting
back with a stranglehold on the mainstream software markets, outsourcing their
labor to India, and screwing us all with products designed to block out their competition
through technical loop-holes and exclusive media formats...

When will we be allowed to call them pirates, after they rape and pillage us for 100 bucks to buy
a single game?

I just thought it would be a decent place to discuss this, since we were on the topic
for a second there. Ignore my spam.

Ahh the reckoning....

Adam.....get Azureus http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

You can enable an encryption option that can block your ISP from shaping your torrent traffic. I know mine, Shaw.ca, tries to relegate such traffic to 7kb/s max.

I say boo-urns.

Quadz.....the way I see it when it comes to piracy is that if you find a small proggy that will help you out from an independant software firm, then pay for the goddamn product. When it's a large corp like M$, for example, then you aren't harming the little guy. He already makes his wage and is not dependant on the individual sales of his product.

What I mean to say is:
A) The independant engineer has himself or a small team to look out for when it comes to making profits. (ie: guys need the profits to put a roof over they're heads
B) The large corporation takes the lions share of the profits for it's board members who are already in the black ink for the rest of their lives.
C) A guy like me can't afford to purchase a $200-$400 piece of software everytime his PC farts or coughs.

Now that's software. Music and movies are akin to those views with a little difference:
If I like it I will buy it because that artist/cinematographer-director earn my admiration.
