Yes, I think 99% (I don't say 100% because I actually saw him correct himself in another thread) of soso's posts are attempts at comedy.  Sometimes he scores, sometimes he doesn't.

And I don't want to sound like I think I'm all high and mighty, but it's funny that KFC has maybe played this 9 year old game for a few months at most?  I seem to recall him just recently getting into the game through his real-life? friend Deathstalker; and already he feels entitled to tell us who have played it for many years, some for the whole 9 year duration (7 years for me), how to play the game.

No, he just doesn't understand why all the fussing over the quad, and why some people gets bent out of shape, can't enjoy it the way it is, and wants it changed when it seems just fine with the "Qword" in.
You know, sometimes it takes someone with a new fresh perspective of the game to remind us that, hey, "it IS just a game", let's all get on and enjoy it for what it is.

But I have finally come up with a solution to this ongoing debate and will post it in a new thread when I get off work tonight.

Ummm... I agree with this when things are heated, but we're just trying to see how we can have the most fun from this game, and arguments that limit our options because of how things have been done in the past aren't helpful to the discussion. 

The argument should only be about the pros and cons of quad damage and how they effect gameplay and "fun".  Period. 

I don't feel that the statement "If ID software made it that way then that's how it's going to be" has any relevance.

And in any case, it was id software who gave us the "No Powerups" dmflag.  So it would seem clear they meant it to be played however people ended up liking it.

Thank you, you inadvertanly said exactly what we've been saying all along. Removing the Quad does exactly that. "Limits our options".
That's why we want it left in full time, so if we want to "decide" and "choose" to use it, we have that "option".
Remove it from the game and you remove our option to choose wether or not to use it.

I am not a Quad Whore, most maps I don't even mess with it at all. But I should be able to choose to if I want. I ceartanly ain't going to snatch it away from someone else who may really, really, really enjoy using it by removing it from the game.

Please understand, there is alot of things I can say I don't like about this game or that game, but I don't ask for those things to be removed.
That's what they make mods for, and servers with different settings, like vanilla and such forth. But i'm not going to go to a server with ceartain settings and then try to get those settings changed because "I" didn't like them.
I'll go to a server with the settings I like.
Why do you think I play only DM, because it has (had) the settings I liked
+PU, No spawn Protect, and none of this mymap Q2DM1 500 million times.

I put up with people mymapping Q2DM1 every chance they got, that's finally gone. But now us stock Pureists have to put up with this 50/50 crap.
Why can't people just play the mods they like and leave our stock DM alone ???

If I like a game well enough over all, i'll put up with the parts I don't like.

I know some argue that the quad is an unfair advantage, this is BS, because it is there for anyone to use.

If you want to know what an unfair advantage is, it's the player that has a skill level 10 times that of mine. Heck, there's sometimes no matter where i'm at, I can't so much as fart without getting railed 300 yards away. I can't do anything or go anywhere without being imediatly nailed. No matter where you are or where you respawn, they are right there, right on top of you. At times like that I just want to stand there and jump up and down till they come and shoot me. Because it would be pointless to go and try to get Armor or a gun, because i'm not going to make it anyway.
But, I'm not going to try and get them removed from the game.

I love to go after Spawn Campers, but now we've "removed" Spawn Campers from the game. Just another thing I really enjoyed that has been "removed".

I don't think Lava is fair. 200health 200Armor, fall in Lava.
Should we have it removed too???

Why don't we remove the BFG while we're at it.

And what about that damn Rail Gun, what's up with that, I've only played this game for 5 years, I'm not near as good at it as someone else that has played it since the game came out. How unfair. Remove it I say!!!

Stock DM should be +PU, No Spawn Protect, and No mymap so we can enjoy "ALL" aspects of the game, not just the parts that a few people allow us to have.

But do what ya'll will with the DM server, unlike some folks as long as it's full of people i'll still play it and have fun doing it.

This is my final post concerning any of the DM settings.

I am not a Quad Whore, most maps I don't even mess with it at all. But I should be able to choose to if I want.

See, this is an opinion, and one I disagree with.  On the same token, I think I should be able to play without quad, the way the DM server used to be, didn't it?  And many DM servers have run in the past.  Now we both get our way, half and half.  It wouldn't be fair for it to be 100% your way or my way right?  I'm happy with half and half.  I wouldn't care if quad went away altogether, I certainly wouldn't miss it, but I'm willing to compromise since that is "fair" to all concerned.  The reason powerups were allowed to be cycled on and off is because there was enough people that actually play FFA a lot of the time that voiced their opinion that they would like it removed.  It hasn't been totally removed though, it's being alternated.  Since 2 servers has been discussed (one with and one without quad) and seems not to be the best idea, as it's unlikely to be a completely even playing field (one server will have the more popular/already used IP, etc.) that idea is probably gonna be out the window, so this alternating cycles of quad on/off is the best altnerative.

Anyway, the main argument the pro-quadders seem to have is that it's the way ID made the game, but that's irrelavent since this is not ID's server, and it's not intended to represent their ideal setup for DM.  The main points this server was to have was the classic DM maps DM1-DM8 and only those on the rotation.  That goal has been achieved.  I don't think when the idea was initially suggested that there was also the suggestion of having everything completely stock.  Like some people have said, that would include weapon stay OFF, and enabling things such as power shield, etc.  Now it's my "preference" to play FFA with weapon stay ON, since otherwise too many blaster-fests are created and that's just not fun for most I'd imagine.  So when arguing your point, make sure when you say you want classic vanilla DM, unmolested, you really mean that; or you just want quad enabled or not, assuming weapon stay OFF is undesirable.
