Author Topic: Quake 2 Co-op Server (Read 6205 times)

A few of us were interested in having a co-op server to connect to. For those who don't know what that is, it's the Quake 2 Single Play game running with the usual monsters (guards, berserkers etc) and those who connect play as a TEAM against all the encountered enemies to eventually complete the game. Its a change from the usual Q2 routine. Think of it as Quake 2 Lite. There are some inconveniences to the format in that each time you connect, you start from nothing weapon-wise so its tougher on the higher levels. However its kinda fun taking down a large enemy with nothing but a group of guys with blasters and the odd grenade. Also we would need a p_kick vote function to boot the odd buffoon who connects and immediately starts killing teamates.

I'm all for it. I've run a coop server before, but don't have the binaries (which were win32 anyway).

I'd play as well. Me, DaHanG, and ni-ux were actually just playing co-op together yesterday. It is suprisingly fun.

Co-op is excellent with the right settings.

I tried to get a coop server running a year or so ago. Unfortunately it kept crashing every 10 minutes or so.

Didn't have time to delve deeply into it...

@console, using the new r1q2 ded on windows i have had a co-op server up days with 0 crashes or bugs, maybe you should try again?

Can you tell me which build of r1q2, and, which version of gamex86.dll ?

Were you using r1q2's gamex86.dll? Or the original id version? or ...?

I dunno 'bout releases. But if you build r1q2 from source, you can build the game.dll as well as the server binary.

I'm just trying to clearify which specific versions Lemonzest got working.

well, the latest beta is 6.5.6.2
though i dont think theres a dedicated server version yet afaik, or a linux one :p

Thanks, but I'd like to hear from Lemonzest which r1q2 version and which game.dll version specifically worked for him.
